The 16th barn along the Clinton County Barn Quilt Trail is on the farm of Granville J. and Jane Gano. It was built in the late 1800s by Granville’s great-grandfather, Samuel Garman. Samuel bought the farmland in 1857.

The “Log Cabin” quilt pattern was chosen because the barn is close to the site of the original log cabin where Samuel Garman and his son-in-law, John T. Gano, raised their families. John T. built the home across Gano Road from the log cabin and barn in 1903. Granville J. and Jane Gano bought the farm from the family estate in 1962.

The barn features large hand-hewn beams and a rafter mounted hay fork which is still in place. The original wooden floor has been replaced with concrete, and the cow stanchions have been removed. New windows and a metal roof have been added over the years to help preserve the barn. A wooden corn crib has been removed from one side to open up the interior space. This barn has housed all forms of livestock along with corn, hay, straw, and machinery over its long history. The original log cabin is now just a memory, with just the wind mill and stones remaining.

There is parking along the side of the road or at the barn entrance. Be careful not to block the entrance for the farm operations.
