Geocache Description:

Kern County Cacher's 2008/2009 TB Road Race Start Line Event and Taft Light Pole Sprint

Everyone is welcome to attend the Kern County Cacher's 2008/2009 TB Road Race Start Line Event and Taft Light Pole Sprint.

The KCC2008/2009 TB Road Race will start at noon on Saturday October 18, 2008 when everyone meets for lunch at the West Side Recreation & Park District's Assembly Building at 500 Cascade Place in Taft, CA (93268).

Admission is $5 for everyone six years old and up and free for five and under. The WSRPD will be proving a wonderful lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, and a few different sides.

You can pay at the door or pay now securely through Pay Pal (a 50 cent Pay Pal fee applies). To access the Pay Pal cart, please click on this link.

Additionally we are developing a T-Shirt especially for this event. These shirts were designed by High Card Printing & More.

We should be able to keep the shirt price at $10 for standard sizes and we will update you with more information as it becomes available.

This will be a great opportunity to meet cachers from all over the area and share Geocaching war stories, trade trackables, and discover coins.

At 1 PM we will introduce the TB Road Race contestants and hand out the travel bugs to the participants.

KCC 2008/2009 TB Road Race Entry and Rules

The Kern County Road Race was originally started by Hedge in 2007 as the RedNeck RoadRace Finish Line. My Flea Market Fred RedNeck RoadRacer Bug was the winner and part of my prize was 12 inactivated travel bugs and 12 plastic holders to go with them. Hedge suckered me into organizing the next race!

This year’s road race will be a Hot Wheels theme. In order to encourage maximum participation, you must sign up to be in the road race and we will not be assigning TB characters to anyone.

There will be an entry fee for participating in the Road Race. Considering that there could be way more than 12 racers in this race, we do not want to pay for all of you; however, using our access to the retail industry, we will be able to keep the costs down. Here is a break down for the entry fee.

Travel Bug: $4.25
Plastic ID Holder: $1.00
TOTAL: $5.25

The racer cars can be provided by the contestants. This enables you to pick a car that fits your particular style or create your own theme. You can also be lazy and have us pick a car for you. We can find Hot Wheels pretty cheap so we will provide you a car for and additional $2.00.

In order to encourage you to sign up early, the first 12 contestants to send me their Hot Wheels, Matchbox, or other similar sized toy car will receive a free travel bug dog tag and plastic ID tag (The first 12 freebee bugs are now taken, sorry).

There are three ways to pay your entry fee. First, you can send a personal check or money order in with your car to:
Wesley Morris
KCC Road Race
1277 Kern Street
Taft, CA 93268

Second, you can come by and drop off your car and your entry fee at the same address Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 PM and on Sundays from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Your third option is that we have created a Pay Pal account and you can pay at the Kern County Cacher's 2008/2009 TB Road Race Start Line Event Pay Pal Page.

Once we receive your racer and entry fee, we will create your racer and activate it online. All racers will belong to elrojo14 so we can conduct proper race management like recalculating miles and marking items as missing. We will insert the basic rules of the race into the listing and allow you to add any thematic text that is appropriate for your racer.

Race Rules

1. Only one racer is allowed per Geocaching user.

2. Your racer will earn one mile for every mile it travels. The most miles wins. Owners may move their own racer as much as they want.

3. Racers will earn a bonus 100 miles for every unique cacher who moves it. A cacher can move your racer multiple times, but only 100 miles will be awarded for that single cacher. Discoveries do not count.

4. Bonus Caches: If your racer is placed (or dipped) in a designated bonus cache, your racer will earn 500 bonus miles. Bonus cache miles can only be earned once so multiple placements in the same cache will only result in one 500 mile bonus. Picture proof of the racer at or near the cache is highly encouraged, but not required. Here is a list of bonus caches:
AMS EMC (GCRG2Y) - Hampton, GA

5. Additional bonuses: If your racer leaves your home state and returns to a cache owned by you in your home state, you will be awarded 500 bonus miles. If your racer leaves your home country and returns to a cache owned by you in your home state, you will receive 1000 bonus miles. All racers will be released from California, so if you live in Oregon, your racer will have to re-enter Oregon, leave Oregon again, and then return to Oregon to receive the bonus. If you have not placed a cache, then you will need to place a cache to receive this bonus. Again photographic evidence of your racer at your cache is highly encouraged, but not required.

6. Grand Theft Auto: Kidnapping of cars is allowed and encouraged. If you are a registered participant in the KCC 2008/2009 TB Road Race you will earn bonus miles for kidnapping and moving an opponent’s car. For every mile you move an opponent’s car, you will receive those bonus miles. However, your opponent will also receive those miles. If you kidnap an opponent’s car and move it 435 miles, you will receive 435 bonus miles. If you place an opponent’s car in a bonus cache, you will also receive 500 bonus miles, but so will your opponent.

!WARNING! The California Highway Patrol takes GTA very seriously and investigates it vigorously. If you hold onto a hot ride for longer than 7 days, the CHP will catch you. Your racer will be penalized 500 miles for every day over 7 days you hold onto an opponent’s car. That 7 days is cumulative for the entire race per specific opponent’s racer.

8. Racers can only be moved by a live, registered Geocacher. Sending racers by mail and virtual moves will not be allowed.

9. All racers will be released to their owners at the Kern County Cacher's 2008/2009 TB Road Race Start Line Event. If you are unable to attend the event, you may designate whom you wish us to release your racer to at the event. Any unclaimed racers at the event will be released the next day at your choice of the following caches:

Race participants are permitted to only retrieve one unclaimed racer from these caches after they have been placed so as to avoid one participant from grabbing all of the racers and then hitting all of the bonus caches in a week.

10. The race ends on Friday February 6, 2009 at midnight. All log entries will have to be received in my e-mail at that time. The finish line event will be Saturday February 7, 2009.

There will be no limit to the size of your car. However, it is best to keep in mind if you have a larger sized toy car, it might not fit in a lot of caches and it might be hard to move around. We recommend any standard sized Hot Wheel or Matchbox toy car.

This event was made for everyone to enjoy. Try to keep the competition light and treat others as you would want to be treated. Most importantly, have fun!

Your donations for prizes are always welcome.

Taft Light Pole Sprint

Prior to the event we will be holding a Taft Light Pole Sprint complete with an opportunity for some FTFs and prizes.

Everyone has an opinion on the often found light pole skirt cache. Some people love them, some people hate them, and some people think a cache is a cache. We decided why not make a race (sprint, since it shouldn't take long) in order to honor (or vilify) this classic cache location. Every cache at this sprint will be placed within the illumination of a light pole, but not necessarily a light pole skirt (we don’t want you to get bored).

The sprint will start at 9 AM sharp from the Assembly Building at 500 Cascade place. All cachers will be placed into teams. The teams can be as large or small as you want, but once your team is established, they must stay together and cannot branch apart to different caches.

The teams will be given a list of 15 new unpublished caches in the greater Taft area. As you find a cache there will be a number and a code word at each cache. The numbers will be used to plug into the final coordinates for the finish line. The code word will be to ensure that everyone plays fair.

The first team to find all 15 caches and reach the finish line will win.
