Geocache Description:

This is the second in a series of Geocaches that will map out the routes of the famous road race - The Targa Florio

The Targa Florio was an open road endurance race held in the mountains of Sicily near Palermo. Founded in 1906, it was the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973. The Circuito Piccolo delle Madonie was used from 1932-1936 and 1951-1977. It was 72 kilometres (45 mi) long, and was lapped 11 times.

To follow the Circuito Piccolo delle Madonie, then you will need to find caches "Targa Florio 01, 02, 03, 04, & 05". If these first caches prove popular, then I will add more to mark out the other routes used.

Targa Florio 02 is in the quiet little town of Cerda.

Today it is famous for it's Artichokes (Carciofi) festival, when some of the best carciofi dishes are available up and down the main street, but on a race day of the Targa Florio, high performance racing cars from Ferarri, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Bugatti and many others would race through this narrow main street at full speed.

This is a nano magnetic, due to the town centre location.

The hint and spoiler photo should lead you straight to it. While in town, check out some of the local bars and gelateria.

If heading on to Targa Florio 03, head south on SS120 and take the SP24 towards Collesano.
