I have hidden four caches up to this point, three of them were easy and the last one was hard to get to but not too difficult to find. This time around I decided to go all out. Between finding the first stage, solving the puzzle to get the coordinates for the second stage, and finding the second stage I feel like this cache should be rated six stars in the difficulty department.
First stage: There is plenty of parking along the side of the road closest to the river so you won’t have to walk far for this stage. It should be noted that the coordinates are near a no trespassing sign, don’t worry, you won’t need to go past it. You will need either a copy of this cache page or internet access because once you find the first stage you will have to solve a puzzle to get the second stage. The key to that puzzle is somewhere in the cache description. Don’t worry, once you find the first stage you will know what to look for.
Second stage: This stage is on the opposite side of the river. Be careful where you come out because there is no shortage of stinging nettle in the area. The container that you are looking for is located in a wonderful example of my favorite type of tree, the Carpinus caroliniana. To find the container you will have to experience this tree the way it was made to be experienced, by climbing it. This type of tree is extremely strong, I weigh 180 lbs and this one held me no problem. Have fun!
Third stage: The third and final stage of this wonderful adventure is located on the rock face that gives the cache its name, the degrees symbol refers to angles, not temperature. The climb to reach the container is not that bad, I made it barefoot and without ropes, but there are several more challenging routes to the top if you want to hone your skills. The container is incredibly easy to find, I thought you might enjoy a change of pace, it is a small bucket stocked with plenty of swag and a silver dollar for the FTF prize.
Hints will not be given out until after the FTF and in order to get a hint you have to post a picture of yourself at the GZ to prove that you tried to find it.
Please log all DNFs so I can see how many people are interested in this type of cache.
Good luck
Nothing to see here, but if you look higher…
