Time and place: 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on June 13 at Whittaker Mountaineering / RMI Expeditions in Ashford (posted coordinates). Look for us under the tents. This year's Mount Rainier CITO is in the morning, so come spend the day with us at Rainier!
Activities: You'll hear all about the Visit Rainier Centennial GeoTour, pick up passports and guidelines, and see the prize for the first series. We'll also have free swag and a raffle for some cool stuff.
Cache release: The Series 1 geocaches and GeoTour page will go live at 4:00 p.m., after the event presentation. We'll have an internet connection and laptops to download the caches to your units, plus printouts of the nearby earthcaches.
Prizes: We will have a free raffle for some great swag donated by our host, Whittaker Mountaineering, as well as Visit Rainier and WSGA. Prizes include a North Face day pack, Kleen Kanteen, Black Diamond Ion headlamp, Nalgene water bottles, $50 in Rainier Bucks, and WSGA bling.
If you can't attend this Kickoff, no worries. The passport and guidelines will be available for download from the Visit Rainier site once the GeoTour is live. That page will be linked from the GeoTour page on geocaching.com as well.
2016 is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, and to celebrate, Visit Rainier and Washington State Geocaching Association (WSGA) are hosting the Visit Rainier Centennial GeoTour – 100 caches placed around Mount Rainier National Park and in its gateway communities. The geocaches highlight the rich history, scenic wonders, quaint communities, and hidden gems of the Rainier region.
Caches will be released in four series of 25 caches each during 2015 and 2016. Participants will record their finds in passports, which may be turned in upon completion of each series to receive a prize. A commemorative geocoin will be awarded to those finding all 100 GeoTour caches.
