Derby Canal
Borrowash
Just off Mear Drive
Sunday 18th September 9.30am - 11.00am
Meet at the footpath onto the canal just off Mear Drive. Please park in the nearby streets being mindful not to block any access.
There are a number of tasks involved, but one of the main one will be scrub clearing. We will be working alongide the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society. Anybody is welcome to come and join in (although under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult and 16 and 17 year olds need parental consent). Any kids should bring a note book and pen so that they can do an animal/insect/bird count on the stretch. There will be other lighter tasks such as litter picking along with some bonfire building!
At 9.30am Eddy, the working party coordinator, will do a safety briefing and sign in session, if you arrive after this time please ensure you see Eddy before joining the working party.
The Derby & Sandiacre Canal Society will have some tools available, but it would be good if people could bring hand held tools and hi-vis jackets if possible. Please ensure you are wearing appropriate clothing including footwear.
PS - You may be asking yourself "What Canal? There isn't a Derby Canal..."...Well you would be half right...there is no Derby Canal with water in it...the DSCS are working towards the restoration of the canal, and this working party is just one of the ways in why the heritage of this Canal can be saved...so on this occasion no life jackets are required!
