Wiildrose Goes for a Bike Ride ~ Latah Trail Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wiildrose: It has been a bad winter, with snow & bad roads. I have been waiting for it to get better, since this is a bike trail on the Palouse. After my last log, Winter hit with a vengeance. I guess I will archive & open the spot for someone else, as the weather has been very unpredictable. Thanx to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

LATAH TRAIL

The Latah Trail occupies the former right-of-way of the historic Moscow to Arrow Northern Pacific railroad line. It travels for 12 miles from Moscow to Troy on a 10-foot-wide paved path, paralleling State Route 8 until Howell Road, where it veers away from the highway through a forested area for the last few miles before reaching Troy. It then extends through Troy and carries on another 4 miles on a gravel bed through Bear Creek Canyon before hitting private property. The Latah Trail Foundation has been trying to extend the trail all the way to Kendrick, but there is a recalcitrant landowner (the railroad pulled out too long ago to qualify for a federal Rails-to-Trails conversion). If the trail could be extended to Kendrick, it would hook up with the Kendrick-Juliaetta bike trail, and the trail would then go clear from Pullman, WA to Juliaetta, ID! As it is now, follow the signs through Bear Creek Canyon, which will clearly designate the portions that are owned by the Latah Trail Foundation (public access) and those that are private property. Please respect private property rights and obey all no-trespassing signs.

At Moscow, the west end of the Latah Trail connects with the 2.23 mile Paradise Path that winds through the city, connecting to the east end of the 7-mile Bill Chipman Palouse Trail that runs from Moscow, ID to Pullman, WA. Paradise Path follows alongside Troy Road then wraps around the campus of the University of Idaho. This connecting trail gives riders the opportunity to travel the bike path all the way from Pullman, Wa to Troy, ID and beyond, which will cover over 25 miles.

I am listing just a handful of parking places. There are probably more. There are also many road crossings that are possible parking places. Be considerate of private property when parking in other locations.

PLEASE ACCESS THE CACHE FROM ABOVE, NOT BELOW. THERE IS AN OLD ROAD STRAIGHT OFF THE PATH. I DO NOT WANT A GEOTRAIL TO FORM.
