The place
Vila Franca de Xira, a 800 years old town, home
of “campinos” and fishermen, is located in the right side of the
Tejo river, making the separation between the “lezírias” plains,
bulls and great agricultural lands, through the South of Tejo, and
the grandiosity of mounts, windmills and the Lines of Torres Vedras
fortifications, through the North.
Monte
Gordo it's an imponent mount raised over the city, more than
200 meters above the river level. This is an excellent site to
observe Vila Franca, the river and the extensive plains from
Ribatejo, the Arrábida Mountain, Lisbon and the nearby hills,
Montejunto and Candeeiros Mountains.
After the visit to Monte Gordo, I recommend a walk through the
city, where you'll be able to visit some interesting places like
the Afonso Albuquerque's Square and its 19 th century buildings,
like the City council, and also a 16 th century Pillory; the
Misericórdia and Matriz Churches; the Municipal Market, the Train
Station; the Palha Blanco's Bullfight Arena and, in the marginal
zone, the old wharf, marina and the very pleasant Constantino
Palha's garden.
The
Hunt:
When you arrive at the top of Monte Gordo
don't think immediately of (in) the cache…
First of all enjoy the great view with the
binoculars I hope you brought. If the weather helps and if you take
a good look, you'll see clearly the details of the river and
lezírias to the Southeast, Arrábida and Lisbon to the South, and
Montejunto as well as Candeeiros to the North.
Enjoy the view and then, finally, search for the
cache!
Good luck!
Don't forget!!! “Cache In, Trash
Out”
We hope you've enjoyed the place and the cache
hunt,
