So there were these two brothers who were attending the annual Geocaching Convention, one of which was rich and successful, the other one being poor and hapless. We’ll call them Rich and Hap. Rich lived in the north and Hap was on the west coast. Rich was slated to deliver the keynote address at the convention, and Hap was given the task of introducing his brother. So Hap introduces Rich as follows:
“I give you my brother Rich, who made a million dollars in Texas oil.”
Rich gets up and sort of sheepishly thanks his brother, but because he is rigorously honest, he finds the need to correct a few things. His speech starts out like this:
“First, I must correct a few things that Hap said. It wasn’t a million dollars, it was really only $500,000. And it wasn’t Texas, it was Pennsylvania. And it wasn’t oil, it was coal. And it wasn’t me, it was Hap. And he didn’t make the money, he LOST it. All I did was loan the money to him!”
So today is the day for Rich and Hap to file their tax returns. Calculate the tax owed and you will be able to find this cache.
Rich is married filing jointly with two kids (both dependents) and his Adjusted Gross Income (Line 36) is $345,885 and his Itemized Deductions (Line 39) are $122,387. Calculate Line 43 of his 2004 US Individual Income Tax Return Form 1040.
Hap is also married filing jointly, but he files the 2004 US Income Tax Return For Single and Joint Filers With No Dependents Form 1040EZ. His Taxable Income (Line 6) is $39,605. Calculate his total tax (Line 10).
You can assume that no other figures are relevant other than what has been given to you. Once your have made your calculations, convert the commas in your results to decimals and you should have the minutes of the North and West coordinates within the 32N/117W grid.
Hey, what's up with Rich paying ten times more in taxes than his brother?!? He isn't breathing any more air than Hap, is he? He pays more in taxes than Hap makes in income! Feel free to comment on whether you think he deserves this.
Once you get there, you will probably be cursing me mercilessly.
Is it in the guard rail?
Is it magnetic?
Is it in the fence?
Are the coordinates good?
Is it buried?
Is it some hanging thing with a fishing line?
Is it in a tree?
Is it micro, small, medium or large?
FlagMan, why I oughtta!!!
