About This Item

Shrieking for Freedom

“It is said the eagle was used as a national emblem because, at one of the first battles of the Revolution (which occurred early in the morning) the noise of the struggle awoke the sleeping eagles on the heights and they flew from their nests and circled about over the heads of the fighting men, all the while giving vent to their raucous cries. "They are shrieking for Freedom," said the patriots.” – From www.baldeagleinfo.com

This eagle would like to travel to locations of historic significance from the time of the American Revolution or caches near them. Spots like Independence Hall, Valley Forge, Mount Vernon, or Betsy Ross’s house are where he’d like to soar. Pictures of his travels are always welcome.

Since he is an eagle, let’s try to keep him soaring.

We figured that it would be in keeping with the spirit of this TB to drop it off near our annual 4th of July celebration. Our family celebrates each year in Plandome NY where they have an old fashioned field day with races for the big and little kids in the morning and rides and a water fight afterwards. Music, dancing, a pet show. You know, All American July 4th. But we had to log a no find due to heavy vines and briars. But Shrieking Freedom did celebrate with us so all was not lost. He should be on his way soon.

Silver Mark dropped it off at the CITO event and I picked it up. I am heading to a "historical" spot of sorts and will drop it off asap.

I picked up this piece of Americana from the "Flick Lives!" cache in Princeton, NJ. It's now here in New York City, guarding my keyboard from dangerous infidels and miscreants.

New York and surrounding areas were sites for a number of historical battles, and info about them can be seen on this web page: http://www.vancortlandthouse.org/New%20York%20in%20the%20Revolutionary%20War.htm

I plan to bring this TB to a CITO event in Queens on April 23rd.
