Bamboo the Panda Travel Tag

We parked next to the abandoned mall; it’s interesting to see such a big mall abandoned and shut down. 

Considering the hint and past finder’s photos, we knew exactly where the stash used to be and can say with certainty that it’s not there any more. While the coords are on the other side of the bridge, there’s no trace left of the cache at GZ. It was however interesting when I noticed the wonderfully visible ‘nests’ of the dozens of fish in the stream nearby and left empty handed.

The start of our little extended-weekend adventure, Laura and I decided to go out shopping and had a big day planned for us. We we planned on visiting 5 big stores and doing the shopping of a lifetime. I did not expect that we would spend on a weekend cooking more than we’d normally spend on a week’s cooking, but that’s just what’s necessary these days. Between stores, on the way to ‘our new’ butcher, we stopped at this stash with our new cooler bag. We didn’t know what we were looking for, but after running across the busy road and not relying on the bouncing GPS signal, I slowly narrowed in on what we came here for. However, it was not, as suggested by the hint, on the middle one. But soon enough, I did find the stash and took out the logbook which is in good condition. I unrolled the logbook and added our nick to it.

Oh the joy of the revenge! Finally!

I honestly don’t think that there has been a cache we’ve tried to find more than this one. This has been such a long time coming! With my first visit in October of last year, we’ve since returned 3 times, all ending with a DNF, and after I only logged a second DNF two and a half months ago. After an OM log confirmed the stash was replaced in December and still there in February, I had this one high on my list, but finally managed to come back today, when we headed to town to celebrate St Patricks day with some friends. Finally, another good reason to come back, and with a few finds after the OM, it was destined to visit. And so we again tried to park as close as possible (always awkward in this place), and headed to GZ. We looked around in all the places we already knew quite well, but this time Laura got lucky and very quickly spotted the stash and had it before I even had a real chance to look around GZ. She got out the pen and nick. Like many local caches, even this one is just a zip log baggie with some magnets, so there really aren’t many chances to drop a TB off. So sorry for still holding on to you…!

While on a shopping trip for some groceries, we infrequently visit the nearby mall. Today, I decided to finally walk out a little and check what this virtual cache was about in person. The mall certainly has an interesting history, not unlike a mall near where we started geocaching.

Sorry for the recent hybernation mode, there's been a lot going on at work and after returning from langkawi, we have not had the time I had hoped to go geocaching as frequently as we used to...

Home sweet home. Happy to be back and unpack.
