So I was at a Meet & Greet, swapping some trackables, and someone mentioned this coin had a goal of getting to Washington D.C. As luck would have it, I was registered to run the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend. So, I brought it with me.
The coin entered Washington D.C. at 2:34 PM on Saturday October 26th. I had grand plans to take it around the city to get some good photos. Unfortunately, by the time I got through the race packet pick up, it was getting late, so I rushed over to get at least one photo with a monument. The one you see is the Washington Monument. It's currently surrounded by a scaffold to make repairs from damage that was caused by an earthquake.
The next morning, I carried the coin with me as I ran the marathon. I've included a photo of myself at the finish with my finisher's medal as proof that it did, in fact, travel where I claim it did. I also included a picture of the race course map with a few of the more notable landmarks pointed out.
I also had planned on dropping the coin off in a cache in D.C. or Arlington, but after the race I was absolutely wiped and too tired to go caching. So, I still have the coin with me, and will place it on a cache so someone else can carry it for a while. I'm thinking in Colonial Williamsburg. During the colonial era, that would have been the equivalent of Washington D.C., the seat of power.
