Current Goal

To be put into the hands of an “Amazing Race” producer!

About This Item

Be a part of geocaching history! Introducing the first video travel bug designed to get it’s owners’ on a television reality show. We are Bob and Dan from Erie, Pennsylvania. We have been friends for 25 years and want to be on the CBS show “The Amazing Race”, the exciting reality series featuring 11 teams of 2 that race around the globe to a finish line where the winners split a million dollars! Check it out at www.CBS.com.

We have sent in our 10-page application along with video and passport. Now the goal is to get this bug directly into the hands of an Amazing Race producer (or send them to the below link where they can view it online). We are confident that if someone on the production staff views our video, they will want to meet us.

Anyone can claim they made a great 3 minute application video - WE SHOW YOU ! You don’t need to be a fan of “The Amazing Race” to enjoy this, but there are a few in-jokes that diehard viewers will appreciate. The video is in MPEG format. Feel free to make a copy of this CD but please handle with extreme care and do not make modifications of any kind! If it is damaged or unplayable - contact me immediately (J Marac) through Geocaching.com and I will replace it.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?? Do you know any of the Amazing Race producers? Jerry Bruckheimer, Burt Van Muster, Alex Rader, David C. Brown, Allison Chase, Barry Hennessey James E. Wade, Hayma Washington, and Evan Weinstein are some of them. Most geocachers will not know these people personally - and we realize this is an extreme long shot - but we are not intimidated by the odds! If you can’t give this to one of the producers directly, just keep it heading towards California, there lies the best chance for this to get into the right hands. Remember: each step gets us closer!

Also you can cheer us on by posting messages, or writing a review of the video on the geocaching/tracktravelbugs page. Have a camera? Upload a digital picture of yourself or group so we can have a photo record of everyone who helped us on our journey! We will send personal feedback thanking you for your involvement.

Find the bug for final details. (PLEASE NOTE: The travel bug tag is affixed to the inside cover of the case) Thanks everyone and wish us luck!

Want to see the video, but can't get to the actual bug itself? It is now posted for easy viewing on video.google.com You can view or download it by simply going to video.google.com and typing Amazing Race in the Search Video box and you will see it pop up (along with some other Amazing Race hopefuls). Or an even easier way is to go to the following link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-652202264955089359&q=amazing+race&pl=true

This one has been hanging out in the desert long enough, it is time to move it along. I just watched the video, and it is great! You guys would be great on the Amazing Race!

I can't believe that the video is still traveling. I was really hoping to see you guys on this season's amazing race. I agree about the family edition, it was horrible. Don't the producers know the size of the audience they would have in the Geocaching nation? Let's all write a letter to CBS.

CBS is now accepting applications for The Amazing Race 10. (See this link.) Deadline for entries is January 13, 2006.

We hope you guys get there! We were cringing through this season's abysmal "family edition", thinking "But we could be watching Bob & Dan!!" the whole time.

Thanks for rescuing us! Our TB was rescued from LAX and is now in Hotel California. Well, it doesn't hurt to keep it moving - maybe it will be back in play by the time the Amazing Race is looking for contestants next year. Here is some good news for those who want to view the video, but don't want/or are unable to download 60MB! Now the video is available for viewing simply by going to video.google.com Once there, just type in Bob and Dan's Amazing Race in the search box and you will find it - click and watch. Thanks again everyone!

We picked Bob and Dan up and moved them to the "Hotel California" in the Colorado Desert, just south of Joshua Tree National Park. Hope they like the change of scenery!

It saddens me to inform all of you that our Amazing Race Travel Bug has come to an anticlimatic and rather sad conclusion. The TB was last put into the LAX South Travel Bug Lock Up which was muggled. The deadline for an interview for Bob and myself has come and gone and unfortunately we never did hear anything from CBS. As for the actual bug itself, I would consider it MIA.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the supportive geocachers from around the world who moved the bug, emailed us, downloaded the video, wrote to Phil Koeghan, etc. You guys are all great! Special kudos to Kiawa for putting the video on her website and making it available for everyone to download.

Maybe the Amazing Race will be in our future, but I guess it was not to be at this time. Thank you again.

Very sincerely,
Dan
