Visited 11/9/2023 Wombatwandering took it to The Greatest Secret Agent London, United Kingdom - 8.23 miles  Visit Log

A bit of sightseeing in London for you today. Stopped by 221B Baker Street, the home of Sherlock Holmes. It’s now the Sherlock Holmes Museum and is actually situated between 237 and 241 Baker Street. Baker Street did not go that far when Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the books. Then we stopped by the home of Danger Mouse, a secret agent mouse who works under a pillar box red post box around the corner from Sherlock Holmes. 🕵️‍♂️

Time for an event, in fact two. We are lucky in London, we have our own ‘regular’ events and then we have a lot of events from travelling cachers. Headed to Australia House first as I had something to do there but got caught up in a Julian Assange demonstration. Moved onto the London Cachers’ event was nearby in a pub in Holborn, an area of London with strong links to the legal profession. Then headed to the Tower of London because somehow another event managed to get published for the same time. 🍻

Out to the London village of Petersham today to say goodbye to my geocaching friends who are moving to Scotland tomorrow. Who will solve all the puzzles for me now????!!!

Petersham appears in Domesday Book (1086) as Patricesham. It was held by Chertsey Abbey. Its assets were: 4 hides; 1 church, 5 ploughs, 1 fishery worth 1,000 eels and 1000 lampreys, 3 acres of meadow. Charles Dickens wrote Nicholas Nickleby in Petersham and the village is also home to the Deutsche Schule of London. 😢

Welcome back to the United Kingdom! You have flown into London and are staying at my house in Hammersmith. No rest for you though as you had a dim sum birthday to attend and then I took you for some ghost hunting near the River Thames. 🇬🇧

Goodbye Manila, Hello Muscat. You’ve arrived in Oman after a relaxing flight in business class. I look after trackables! No travel in the hold for you. Oman looked quite interesting topographically but there was no time to explore as it was back onto the next plane. 🇴🇲

For your last day in Manila, I took you caching to Bonifacio Global City (BGC). It’s a modern area with high skyscrapers, upmarket shops and restaurants, and wide streets and footpaths for pedestrians. The area used to be a US military base during the American colonial period but was returned to the Phillipines after the country gained independence in 1946. The area was then used as a detention centre for political prisoners when Ferdinand Marcos placed the Philippines under martial law in 1972. 🪖

Manila is quite different to how people imagine a capital city. It’s really a collection of 16 cities. Today I zipped over to Makati City which is basically how you would imagine a capital city to be. It’s the financial centre of the Philippines and has the highest concentration of multinational and local corporations in the country. Major banks, corporations, department stores as well as foreign embassies are based in Makati. It’s also one of only two cities in Manila that have geocaches! Happy Halloween - it’s a big thing in Manila (unlike geocaching). 🎃

Welcome back to The Philippines! You had some rest and relaxation and then it was off to an event. A Czech cacher put it in some random back street location miles from where we live and not even near the airport. They didn’t even bother to arrive but still logged it so it was clearly just an icon gathering exercise for them. 🇵🇭

Visited 10/26/2023 Wombatwandering took it to Hong Kong Int'l Airport - Spirit of Sha Tin Hong Kong - 4,610.41 miles  Visit Log

Welcome back to Hong Kong! I hope you enjoyed your Australian holiday. Flight was uneventful. You watched the new Indiana Jones. A short stay here and then it was back on another plane. 🇭🇰

A little caching with my friend ConnieandRick today. She grew up in Acton, London, UK. Then she moved to Melbourne, Australia. I grew up in Melbourne and then I moved to Acton. We met because we had each others TBs at one point.

Today, she flew into Melbourne from London where she had been for the exact amount of time that I had been in Melbourne. And when I say exact, I mean that my time in Melbourne is over today. We managed a few caches between planes and also survived a fantastic hailstorm. We were in the Conniemobile when it hit luckily but I’ve never had to dig through piles of hail for caches before!

Anyway, it’s time for you to leave. Pack your bags and grab your passport! This is never a good day for me and today is worse because I’m leaving my Geoson behind to start his new life in Australia without me. 😢
