Passing through one of Melbourne’s two big train stations. This station will always be Spencer Street Station for me but it had an upgrade and a rebrand and is now Southern Cross. If you need a country or interstate train, this is where you leave from. If you need to get a bus to the airport, you leave from here too because Victorian politicians have been too stupid or have too much self interest to put a train to the airport. Embarrassing. Melbourne is one of six cities in the world's 50 busiest airports without a rail link or one on the way. The other five are heavily car-dependent American cities. 🚊

Visited 10/22/2023 Wombatwandering took it to The sand of St. Kilda Victoria, Australia - 6.48 miles  Visit Log

Checking out the sand at St Kilda beach, one of the beaches of the city of Melbourne. There is even a colony of penguins living here. Wonderful to have these great things in the city. 🐧

Brunch culture in Melbourne is huge and I fully embrace it. This is smashed avocado central. Met up with friends in Northcote and then went for a wander along the Yarra River. 🥑

Headed way out east in Melbourne’s sprawl today to see some friends. Stopped at the neighbourhood - not a suburb - of Laburnum. It has some nice green areas and is meant to be a wildlife corridor although there were a fair amount of introduced and invasive plant species here including an understory of snowdrops. 🌳

Visited 10/19/2023 Wombatwandering took it to #04 The Puzzle Box Geoart Victoria, Australia - 18.07 miles  Visit Log

I had some time today but not not enough so thought I’d try and grab a Wherigo for my calendar. Headed south west to the You Yangs, a series of granite ridges that rise up to 319 m above the flat and low-lying Werribee Plain. The cache was in a side bit of the State Park and you couldn’t even see the hills even though I was virtually next to them. Saw a lizard but no swamp wallabies which are usually plentiful.🦎

Visited 10/17/2023 Wombatwandering took it to SideTracked - Hoppers Crossing Victoria, Australia - 305.68 miles  Visit Log

Welcome back to Melbourne. I had to have an X-ray so took you along to Hoppers Crossing. This suburb is excellent for SideTracked because it is named after Elizabeth Hopper, a gatekeeper of the level crossing over the railway line now called the Werribee line. Her duty was to close and re-open a set of large wooden level crossing gates whenever a train passed through. 🛤️

Visited 10/16/2023 Wombatwandering took it to Outside The Penalty Box Australian Capital Territory, Australia - 3.3 miles  Visit Log

Old Parliament House one day, New Parliament House today. I went into the Houses and watched the Prime Minister talk about Israel and Palestine. You had to stay in the cloakroom because nothing is allowed in. Went up on the grassy roof and looked over Canberra. Then it has off to the airport. 🗳️

Visited 10/15/2023 Wombatwandering took it to The Dismissal Australian Capital Territory, Australia - 1.91 miles  Visit Log

You enjoyed a visit to Old Parliament House and seeing how Prime Minister Bob Hawke had his office set up in the 1980s. So much brown, no many ashtrays! It was really interesting how minimal everything was compared with today. Found some other caches in the immediate area which was nice for me because I used to work here once upon a time. 🗃️

Back in Canberra and spent a mostly relaxing afternoon at the Capital Brewery but I was a little alarmed by a troupe of Morris Dancers. They seem out of place in Australia. Then went for a walk around the Jerrabomberra Wetlands. Saw a Grandma fall off the boardwalk and into the water. We couldn’t even work out how that was possible. Also spotted a kangaroo and found an itty bitty baby snake necked turtle. So cute! 🐢

You took a day trip north to Yass, NSW, to find some challenge caches and Wherigos. By 1830, a settlement had started in the area where the new Sydney to Melbourne road crossed the Yass River. Otherwise, not much happens in Yass except geocaching. 🧭
