RADD Race - The Little Mermaid vs Cheeky Monkey
My partner and I have been caching together since we started dating and recently we came across an amazing idea for a trackable race with yearly prizes/forfeit for the winner/loser.
The winner will be whichever tag travels the furthest distance by NYE on any given year...
Please help us travel far and wide clocking up the miles and hopefully helping The Little Mermaid WIN!!

The geocachers in Manila are concentrated around Bonafacio Global City (BGC), an area of wide avenues, tall skyscrapers, restaurants, open spaces, and shops - or in other words, a magnet for dayuhans / AFAMs (foreigners). Picked up another FTF here but still can’t find another one nearby. It’s cat city around here too. They have dedicated feeding areas. 🐈

You are back in Manila. Spent too long looking for this cache because the armed guard had it. Muggles with guns make caching a bit too difficult. Good Friday so all the streets are absolutely quiet. The Filipinos take Maundy Thursday and Good Friday very very seriously! It makes for a very different Manila than I’m used to. 💒

Some caching in the capital of Palawan, Puerto Princesa. Don’t get too excited. As is often the case in the Philippines, you need to bring your own cache to find. I’m always torn between putting in a throw down or there not being a cache at all. I’ve decided that since I’m technically a local cacher, I’ll help out the geocaching community here (but nowhere else). Great night market here with good food. Missing the mango and guanabana smoothies from the juice stall in Sabang Village though, they are the best. 🥭

Holiday time. The In-laws arrived in Manila and then we all flew to Puerto Princesa on the island of Palawan. From there, we travelled 2 hrs to the village of Sabang. It’s so beautiful here. Really spectacular. Rainforest, mountains, jewel coloured sea, insta worthy accommodation. All it’s missing are some geocaches!
On another day, we took a boat to the nearby Puerto Princesa Underground River, the second longest underground river in the world but the only one accessible from the sea. Very impressive, lots of bats too, but the best bit for me was watching the monkeys have a swim in the river.🦇

You hit the shops today for this cache outside SM Megamall in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong, Manila. It’s the third largest shopping mall in the Philippines and the thirteenth largest in the world. The mall is easy walking distance to my home so I’m here fairly often. Filipinos love shopping malls. They have four of the largest 20 in the world, three of which are in Manila. I have six malls that I can easily walk to. It’s basically wall to wall malls. You walk through malls to get to other malls. They mostly all have the same shops. I think most people come for the aircon. 🛍️

It’s nice when you are about the only geocacher in town. Another FTF for me today. No rush to get them here. This one was near the climbing gym my son goes to when we are at our Manila house (so not often….!). 🧗🏻

Maligayang pagdating sa Pilipinas. Welcome to The Philippines. Technically, I live in Manila even though I don’t turn up here very often. Thanks to jet lag, I was up early for a FTF on this cache. Some new caches have been published since my last visit so it’s very exciting. There are very few caches here. This one was not far from my home in the new development of Estancia. Home for a rest now. I’m not used to this heat. 🇵🇭

Now you are a very high travel bug. You went up to the 154th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the World’s tallest skyscraper, and enjoyed the views with a glass of bubbles and some petit fours. It’s Ramadan at the moment and if you lived on the 154th floor, you’re so high that you’d have to wait an extra three minutes to break your fast compared to people at sea level. Time for another plane. 🌃

أهلا بك في الإمارات العربية المتحدة. Welcome to the United Arab Emirates. After landing in Dubai, you hopped on the metro, then a tram, then a monorail, and then walked along the seafront past Atlantis The Palm to a cache. It’s on the furthest point of the of the reclaimed land islands called the Palm Jameirah which are in the shape of a date palm. No time for the water slides. 🇦🇪
