This Cache can be collected as
an individual traditional cache or as part of the circular Wellow
Wood Nature trail series. While the walk is very pleasant it can
also get very muddy after rain so walking boots or even Wellingtons
are recommended. And don’t forget to have a big breakfast
(see
GC1XTYN).
Quite interesting facts:
The ground vegetation is locally dominated by dog’s
mercury, but is very diverse, (especially near this cache)
containing a large number of plants indicative of ancient woodland,
including ramsons, wood anemone, yellow archangel, wood sorrel,
primrose and giant bellflower. On higher, more level ground to the
south, the
original woodland is represented by a speciesrich scrub which has
developed following a felling operation.
Next Cache:
Continue (Approx 330ft) to a T junction in the path where
another path leads down from the forest. Take time out on your way
to stop for a moment and listen to the wild life. Can you identify
any of the bird songs you hear? At this point you are approaching
“Wellow nature trail #3” a traditional cache this time
but hopefully a little bit unusual with its camouflage. If at first
you don’t succeed, keep looking, it is there and of course
you will need the clue (3rd letter) if you hope to find the worthy
Bonus cache.
Bonus Cache:
Solving the clue for the Bonus Cache (GC1XV29)
You will have found a Nature Trail Clue, _ _ _ _ _Solve the clue,
and use the 3rd letter to look up a number from the grid found and
downloadable from the Bonus Cache (GC1XV29).
When you have solved all the clues you will have the full
co-ordinates for the bonus.
