This Cache can be collected as
an individual multi cache or as part of the circular Wellow Wood
Nature trail series. While the walk is very pleasant it can also
get very muddy after rain so walking boots or even Wellingtons are
recommended. And don’t forget to have a big breakfast
(see
GC1XTYN).
Quite interesting facts:
In the 1950s/60s There were giant anthills up to three
feet high dotted all over Cocking Moor. After that, the bushes and
trees grew taller, the vegetation changed, and the anthills
gradually disappeared.”
Next Cache:
You may have to backtrack slightly to get the actual
cache then continue up Cocking Hill (Approx 0.2 mile) apart from
the mud this is probably the most strenuous part of the walk and if
you are anything like as fit as me you might have a bit of a pant
on by the time you reach the top. There is no footpath along this
road so keep an eye out for on coming traffic along this stretch,
especially if you have children in tow. Stop for a breather at the
Forestry Commission gate to the wood, it is close to here you
should find the next cache. Note that this path is used for timber
lorries and is private; you have no need to go beyond the gate to
collect this traditional cache.
