Geocache Description:

A cache in Coyote Creek State Park

Mora County

This cache is part of the New Mexico Challenge. One cache is hidden in each of New Mexico's 33 counties.

Your mission, should you decide to accept it is to find and log all 33 caches with a photo of yourself at the cache site.

This easy cache is meant to get you out to Mora County to enjoy the beautiful scenery of this area. It is also part of the New Mexico Challenge. It is located in Coyote Creek State Park, which has a $5 day-use fee. (If you plan to visit many state parks this year, you might consider purchasing an annual pass for $40.) There are also campsites here if you want to enjoy an overnight in a peaceful location.

The cache is located along the Lookout Trail, which is a 1.5-mile hiking trail that can be accessed from either the north or south end. North end parking is at N 36 10.683/ W 105 13.956. Cross the footbridge and find the north trailhead at N 36 10.678/W 105 13.910. From the north end, it is about .3 miles to the cache. There is a somewhat steep section at the very beginning of the trail, but it gets more level after that. Continue on the trail to reach the water, where you can see waterfowl and beaver dams galore. Alternately, you can drive to the south end and pick up the trail there. Going this way seems to incline a little more gradually, but the whole trail is pretty short so you might as well enjoy all of it!

For NM Challenge verification purposes, please take a photo of yourself at the cache site. As shown in the example photo, there is a green-roofed building and mountains in the background at the cache site as you face back toward the Lookout Trail. Alternately, please take a photo of you and/or your GPS with the cache box, showing the sticker that is on the outside of the box.

You can find out more about this state park and see a park map at: http://www.emnrd.state.nm.us/PRD/CoyoteCreek.htm. Continuing north along Hwy 434 will take you to Colfax County and more incredible scenery. The cache is located within about 10 feet of the trail, so please rehide very well to avoid it being muggled. Thanks and enjoy!
