Parish Perimeter - Northill: Sheerhatch Wood Traditional Cache

This is part of a series of caches set around the border of the parish of Northill, Bedfordshire

At each point where a road breaks through the boundary to enter the parish a cache has been placed. In the log book for each of these caches there is a piece of information which can be used to locate a bonus cache: The Interior.

Northill parish has two websites: one for the Parish Council and a Community Information Web Site. The parish is home to the Ickwell May Day festivities which have been taking place on the green in Ickwell since at least 1565.

You would have thought that here the parish boundary would go along the road, skirting the woods. However, the boundary on its way to/from Budna follows a stream/ditch that meanders into the woods a short way. If you look at Sheerhatch Wood on a map of Google Earth, it looks like a lovely place to wonder with tracks well marked and dense tree cover. Unfortunately though there are no public rights of way in the woods and the owners obviously take the private nature of their property very seriously. At every point around the woods where one might possibly think about going in, there are big "Private" signs. Never mind!

We previously located this cache at a gateway into the woods but then forestry work made that impractical. The new location is better but there is not much in the way of parking space. However, it is a very straight road at this point so parking on the road right by the cache should be possible.
