You can enjoy either two shorter circular walks, or a longer one of approximately 10 miles through the spectacular limestone scenery of the Malham area finding these caches along the way. Most of the caches contain the usual items PLUS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION so that you can find out more about the geology of this interesting and beautiful area.
Start at Water Sinks or link from the Locks Scar cache. The Malham Tarn shuttle bus service 809 connects to Malham and Settle and runs at weekends and bank holidays through the summer.
The recommended approach is along the eastern shore of Malham Tarn Nature Reserve to the ancient Monk’s road path then ascend to the top.
Features of the landscape that can be seen on this route include Malham Tarn (Yorkshire’s highest natural lake) and the North Craven Fault. Further information on these can be found in the cache, but if you would like to find out more about the geology of the Yorkshire Dales before starting your search, visit the Timelines/Geology area of our archaeology website www.outofoblivion.org.uk
Note this cache is NOT located at the summit cairn.
This cache contains part of the coordinates for the Plantation Cache BUT because the cache was full of water and all the paperwork gone we are publishing it here instead N 54° 05.548 SD xxxxx 66291.
