CENTENNIAL TRAIL:
This 61 mile, two-state National Recreation Trail is a treasure for Inland Northwest residents and visitors. It consists of 2 parts: The 37-mile Spokane River Centennial Trail in Washington and the 24-mile North Idaho Centennial Trail. Following Expo '74, advocates proposed a mixed use pathway along the river. Citizens in Washington and Idaho expanded the idea by 1986 by joining forces and suggesting a much longer trail that could be completed in time to celebrate the respective state centennials of Washington (1989) and Idaho (1990). In 2010, it was designated a National Recreation Trail. The Trail generally follows the contours of the Spokane River, allowing access for many types of outdoor non-motorized recreational activities.
WASHINGTON SECTION - SPOKANE RIVER CENTENNIAL TRAIL
The Spokane River Centennial Trail section is a 37-mile paved trail. It is managed by Washington State Parks as the Spokane River Centennial State Park Trail. The trail extends from Sontag Park in Nine Mile Falls, Washington to the Washington/Idaho border. It follows the Spokane River over bridges and trestles, and alongside the tumultuous eddies, large basalt formations and turquoise waters of Riverside State Park; it then heads east through historic downtown Spokane, a welcoming lunch or overnight stop. It then continues east into the valley, where Arbor Crest Winery and Antoine Peak views are interspersed with the urban and suburban conveniences of Spokane Valley. It ends at the Washington–Idaho border where it meets up with the North Idaho Centennial Trail . Once in Idaho, it is possible to hike or ride all the way to Coeur d'Alene on the North Idaho Centennial Trail.
Many trailheads and access points allow visitors to break the route into smaller sections, though many trail users tackle its entire length on a long bike ride or multi-day hike.
INFO:
A Washington State Discover Pass is only required on vehicles parked at Centennial Trail "Trailheads" within Riverside State Park. The pass is not required at other trailheads (Maringo, Islands, Barker, etc.).
Trail hours are 6:30am - DUSK. Cars may be towed from trailheads if parked after hours.
Beware of car theft, and do not leave valuables in your car at trailheads.

IDAHO SECTION - NORTH IDAHO CENTENNIAL TRAIL:
The North Idaho Centennial Trail is a 24-mile paved biking and walking trail. It meanders for 24 miles from the Idaho/Washington state line along the Spokane River to Higgins Point on beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene, 6 miles east of Coeur d'Alene. The trail features rest areas, scenic overlooks and historical interpretive signs. To the west, at state line, it connects with the Spokane River Centennial Trail, which extends along the Spokane River, through Spokane's Riverfront Park and on to Nine Mile Falls.
The North Idaho Centennial Trail project was put into motion in 1987. The first five miles of trail were dedicated in October of 1990, in honor of the state's centennial, with the final link between Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls being completed in 1996. It is overseen by the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation, with the vision to connect the people of North Idaho with an expanding system of trails.

From MORIN TRAILHEAD/BOWL & PITCHER OVERLOOK ( 47° 41.862'N 117° 30.037'W), head north through the gate on the well paved road-like path. From here the trail will descend slightly for the the entire 0.8 miles on the way down to the restroom and access to other local trails in Riverside State Park. The restroom at the end of this section is known as "The Icebox" by local rangers. Not only is it one of the only restrooms not located at a trailhead, but it also gets extremely cold due to its location. This chilling truth has helped create the nickname for the restroom.
