Domžale so mesto s 13.115 prebivalci in so po številu prebivalcev sedma največja slovenska občina. Ležijo južno od Kamniško-Savinjskih Alp in so upravno ter kulturno središče vzhodne Gorenjske. Domžale so postale mesto šele 19. aprila leta 1952. Takrat je bilo središče mesta deljeno na Spodnje in Zgornje Domžale. Vedno bolj so dobivale podobo industrijskega kraja z zlasti močno kemično in tekstilno industrijo. Močno pa se je razvila tudi obrtna dejavnost. Največji uspeh je mesto doživelo v 80. letih, ko je postalo najbolj razvito mesto Slovenije in Jugoslavije, v času ko so zgradili bloke in stolpnice. Takrat je mesto dobilo novo, popolnoma spremenjeno podobo, vse stare hiše in vaški značaj so zamenjali bloki in beton. Zaradi močne navezanosti na Ljubljano kjer je zaposlenih veliko prebivalcev in kjer prebivalci Domžal zadovoljujejo veliko mestnih potreb, imajo Domžale značaj satelitskega mesta.

Mesto pretežno leži na desnem bregu Kamniške Bistrice, največje reke v mestu, ki se na območju Dola pri Ljubljani izliva v reko Savo. Je najbolj urbanizirana reka v Sloveniji, zaradi mnogih poplav je bila regulirana leta 1973.

Okoli mesta tečejo manjši potočki, ki se vsi izlivajo v Kamniško Bistrico, med njimi tudi Mlinščica, ki je umetno ustvarjen industrijski kanal. Ime je dobila po številnih kmečkih mlinih, ki jih je poganjala voda.

Domžale kot zelo mlado mesto sicer nimajo starega mestnega jedra, imajo pa prekrasno Zeleno os ob Kamniški Bistrici. Kolesarska in pešpot po Zeleni osi ob Kamniški Bistrici poteka od Štude – južnega dela Domžal – do severnega vznožja Homškega hriba in naprej do meje s sosednjim Kamnikom in je dolga dobrih 14 kilometrov. Zelena os je živahna in obljudena od prve zarje do mraka. Če lahkotnemu kolesarjenju po lepo urejenih poteh po obeh bregovih Kamniške Bistrice dodamo vzpon na razgledni Homec, obisk gozdne učne poti na Šumberku ali pa postanek v Arboretumu Volčji potok, lahko iz tega nastane zanimiv, celodneven izlet.

Ob poti so lepo urejena počivališča, opremljena s pitniki, kjer se lahko odžejamo z odlično pitno vodo, otroška igrišča in orodje za telovadbo na prostem.  Od leta 2016 v mesecu juniju poteka dogodek Pohod ob reki, ki povezuje.

Domžale is a town with 13,115 inhabitants and it is the seventh largest municipality in Slovenia by number of residents. It is located to the south of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and serves as the administrative and cultural center of eastern Gorenjska. Domžale was granted town status only on April 19, 1952. At that time, the town center was divided into Lower and Upper Domžale. It increasingly took on the appearance of an industrial town, especially with a strong presence in the chemical and textile industries. Craftsmanship also flourished. The town's greatest achievement came in the 1980s when it became the most developed town in Slovenia and Yugoslavia, a period during which apartment blocks and high-rises were built. At that time, the town underwent a complete transformation, with old houses and its village character replaced by apartment blocks and concrete. Due to its strong connection to Ljubljana, where many residents are employed and where Domžale residents satisfy many urban needs, Domžale has the character of a satellite town.

The town predominantly lies on the right bank of the Kamniška Bistrica river, the largest river in the town, which merges with the Sava river near Dol pri Ljubljani. It is the most urbanized river in Slovenia and was regulated in 1973 due to many floods.

Surrounding the town are smaller streams, all flowing into the Kamniška Bistrica, including Mlinščica, an artificially created industrial canal. It was named after the numerous peasant mills it powered.

While Domžale, being a relatively young town, does not have an old town center, it boasts the beautiful Green Axis along the Kamnik Bistrica. The cycling and walking path along this Green Axis runs from Študa – the southern part of Domžale – to the northern foothills of the Homec Hill and further to the border with neighboring Kamnik, stretching over 14 kilometers. The Green Axis is vibrant and crowded from dawn to dusk. Adding a climb to the scenic Homec, a visit to the forest educational trail on Šumberk, or a stop in the Arboretum Volčji Potok can turn this into an interesting, full-day excursion.

Along the path, there are well-maintained rest areas equipped with drinking fountains where one can quench their thirst with excellent drinking water, children's playgrounds, and outdoor exercise equipment. Since 2016, the 'Walk by the River' event has been held in June, which connects the community.

Domžale ist eine Stadt mit 13.115 Einwohnern und ist sie die siebtgrößte Gemeinde Sloweniens nach Einwohnerzahl. Sie liegt südlich der Kamnik-Savinja Alpen und ist das Verwaltungs- und Kulturzentrum von Obergorenjska. Domžale erhielt den Stadtstatus erst am 19. April 1952. Zu dieser Zeit war das Stadtzentrum in Unter- und Ober-Domžale unterteilt. Es nahm zunehmend das Aussehen einer Industriestadt an, insbesondere mit einer starken Präsenz in der Chemie- und Textilindustrie. Das Handwerk florierte ebenfalls. Der größte Erfolg der Stadt kam in den 1980er Jahren, als sie zur am meisten entwickelten Stadt Sloweniens und Jugoslawiens wurde, in der Zeit, in der Wohnblocks und Hochhäuser gebaut wurden. Zu dieser Zeit erlebte die Stadt eine komplette Transformation, wobei alte Häuser und ihr dörflicher Charakter durch Wohnblocks und Beton ersetzt wurden. Wegen ihrer starken Verbindung zu Ljubljana, wo viele Einwohner arbeiten und wo die Einwohner von Domžale viele städtische Bedürfnisse erfüllen, hat Domžale den Charakter einer Satellitenstadt.

Die Stadt liegt hauptsächlich am rechten Ufer des Flusses Kamniška Bistrica, dem größten Fluss der Stadt, der bei Dol pri Ljubljani in den Fluss Sava mündet. Es ist der am meisten urbanisierte Fluss in Slowenien und wurde 1973 wegen vielen Überschwemmungen reguliert.

Um die Stadt herum fließen kleinere Bäche, die alle in den Kamniška Bistrica münden, einschließlich Mlinščica, ein künstlich geschaffener Industriekanal. Er wurde nach den zahlreichen Bauernmühlen benannt, die er antrieb.

Obwohl Domžale, eine relativ junge Stadt, kein altes Stadtzentrum hat, verfügt sie über die schöne Grüne Achse entlang des Kamnik Bistrica. Die Grüne Achse ist von der Morgendämmerung bis zur Dämmerung lebhaft und überfüllt. Wenn man dazu noch einen Aufstieg zum malerischen Homec, einen Besuch des Waldlehrpfads auf Šumberk oder einen Stopp im Arboretum Volčji Potok hinzufügt, kann dies zu einem interessanten Ganztagesausflug werden.

Entlang des Weges gibt es gut gepflegte Rastplätze mit Trinkbrunnen, an denen man seinen Durst mit ausgezeichnetem Trinkwasser stillen kann, Kinderspielplätze und Outdoor-Fitnessgeräte. Seit 2016 wird im Juni die Veranstaltung 'Spaziergang am Fluss' abgehalten, die die Gemeinschaft verbindet.
