Vrata sv. Nikolaja so bila najvišja, imela so še manjša vrata Pusterla, ki danes niso več ohranjena. Mestna Rašporska vrata in vrata Marciana pa stojijo še danes.

Welcome to Piran, one of the most picturesque and historically rich towns on the Slovenian coast! This Mediterranean town enchants with its narrow cobbled streets, Venetian architecture, lively Tartini Square and views of the blue Adriatic Sea.
Piran has been under the influence of the Venetian Republic for centuries, which is still visible in its buildings, culture and language. A walk through its streets is like a journey through time – from the city walls above the town to the Church of St. George, which offers a stunning view of the coast.
DESCTRIPTION
The published coordinates contain the most extensive remains of the mighty city walls, with exceptional historical value, which give Piran its character as a medieval seaport. The walls boast 7 defensive towers, and the peaks are adorned with Ghibelline merlons, which give the city its characteristic view.
The Piran walls were first mentioned in the 7th century and were built around the city center on Punta. A fortress was built on the hill above Punta in the 10th century, where the townspeople retreated in times of danger.
Between 1470 and 1533, the youngest part of the walls with defensive towers was built to defend against Turkish invasions, thus closing off the entire part of the city on the land side. Over the centuries, the city expanded, and with it new walls, which also encompassed the Campo quarter, which also included the inner harbor. Seven city gates have been preserved, which served as the former entrance to the city: the Mile Gate, the Dolphin Gate, the Polish Gate, the Baroque Gate of St. George, the Marcan Gate, the First Rašpor Gate and the Second Rašpor Gate. The Mile Gate is among the oldest preserved gates in the city, while the Dolphin Gate is the most beautifully preserved Gothic gate. They were built in the 15th century by the then mayor Dolfin, and we can recognize them by their characteristic coat of arms with three dolphins. The St. Nicholas Gate was the tallest, and it had an even smaller Pusterla Gate, which is no longer preserved today. The city's Rašpor Gate and Marciano Gate still stand today.
