Goodbye ICM’s AtlantaGal Personal Coin,I’ve dropped you in Holmesglen, eastern Melbourne, with ConnieandRick who I met because we each found the other’s travel bugs a while ago. It’s good to have a solid day of caching. Just finished before it started absolutely pouring. Even flooded the tram tracks in other parts of Melbourne. Have more exciting adventures! 🌧

It’s time for Confused Aphorism and I to have a catch up. We chose a hike in the You Yangs, granite ridges that rise up to 319 m above the flat and low-lying Werribee Plain in southern Victoria between Melbourne and Geelong. They are popular for hiking, climbing, mountain biking, and animal watching. Plenty of kangaroos today. 🦘

We went for a very early, and very chilly, walk around Alphington Park. The wattles are looking fantastic. I miss the smell of Australia when I’m away - the eucalypts and the wattles, so beautiful. 🦆

One of my friends from interstate is also in town. We ended up back in the city and took a walk through the beautiful parks and gardens along St Kilda Road to the Shrine of Remembrance and then back along the Yarra. Wonderful views of the city skyline from here. 🏙

Finished the day by taking you to see the Melbourne Cricket Ground (and finding a cache I’d previously DNFed). The MCG is the home of Australian Cricket and Australian Rules Football games are played here every week during winter. The Grand Final is held here each year and I’m hoping The Cats get the cup this year. 🏟

And now you’re in Geelong, Victoria’s second largest town. It’s the home of my Australian Rules Football Club, The Cats. The team is going very well so far this year. Just a quick stop to swap travel bugs. Onwards. 😺

You’ve made it safely to Queenscliffe. Sometimes dolphins make the crossing with the ferry but not today. Now you are on the Bellarine Peninsula heading north. Queenscliffe is a lovely town. I used to work at the Marine Science Centre there. Always good to be back. 🐬

You have driven down the Mornington Peninsula to Sorrento, not far from the southern tip. Stopped for a potato cake lunch before catching the ferry across to Queenscliffe. Melbourne lies on a body of water called Port Phillip Bay. The bay has a very narrow opening - The Rip- to the rough waters of Bass Straight. The tide and the rocks through this channel make it very dangerous for boats and ships. No problem for you because you stay in the safer waters of the bay. 🚢

Next stop was at a decommissioned reservoir that has been turned into a nature reserve. It’s a very pretty area on the Mornington Pensinsula. It’s not too far from where I was born actually - I guess this is my personal GZ. Stopped for this one special cache Australia’s, 4th oldest (GCAD, November 2000), and the 71st oldest in the world. 🏅
