My favorite cache in this visit to Croatia was this modern virtual based on five statues in Osijek. Our river cruise guide took us through this church, and explained the statues, among other things. The church "of the raising of the cross" is named not for any biblical event, but for the re-erection of the cross in front of the Church after the departure of the Turks. The statues in the facade are of St. Francis (on the left) and St. Roch, patron saint against the plague.

This was the best geocache I found in Budapest, and one of the most interesting ever, in one particular sense. I'm sorry I can't explain that further here, but it's also a nice statue. I thought you might like to see it.

We visited Schönbrunn Palace, a very interesting glimpse into Austrian royalty and history. It was built by Franz Josef I, Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, and monarch of many other states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We went through the rooms of the Imperial Suite, which are well restored and mostly original in decor and furnishings. They've done an excellent job of using these surroundings to help us gain real insight into how they lived and ruled here.

I count myself lucky when I'm able to find a geocache in an international airport we're going through, and I was lucky today. I almost blew it, though. The location is inside the terminal, but next to the start of a new runway that's been added. A requirement was to post a selfie with "the airplane". I first took a photo with a monstrous Lufthansa plane visible through the window. Later, I discovered that folks were posting photos with a large airplane mural on the wall inside. Fortunately, we were still here, and I came back for a second photo. I thought the travellers I'm carrying might enjoy an extra stop in Germany.

This was another cache found on our San Francisco art tour with members of the Denver Art Museum. This church has many striking works of art, but the most outstanding, in my opinion, were the main doors. These are replicas of Ghiberti's "Doors of Paradise", in Florence.

My snuggle and I visited San Francisco on an art tour with a group from the Denver Art Museum. We had a great time and saw some wonderful private collections, artists in their studios, museums, and galleries. And, of course, I found some time for geocaching. One of the places the hobby took me was to this whimsical sculpture -- a jolly fellow with a lot of extra body parts, including hands, fingers, noses, ears, feet and more. That was fun, and I also enjoyed finding a nearby fully robotic coffee shop. Will wonders never cease?

For my 5500th cache, I chose the World Trade Center memorial. I was here for the Formula E race and some related events, and staying at a hotel that overlooks the memorial. This is a truly moving memorial, and I enjoyed having time for a visit. Here are photos of one side of the memorial itself, and of the Survivor Tree, which somehow remained alive and standing amidst the devastation of 9/11.

I came to NYC to see the Formula E race — an FIA racing class similar in many respects to Formula 1, but with electric race cars. I was fortunate enough to be a guest of the Virgin racing team, and got an inside look. The race in NYC is held in Red Hook, which happens to be the only point on the mainland from which there’s a frontal view of the Statue of Liberty. If you think someone must have put a geocache there, you’d be correct. Here’s a photo of Miss Liberty, taken from the cache site, and a shot of next year’s beautiful Formula E car. 🙂

I'm going to claim Father's Day privilege and post a photo that shows why we happen to be in Durango, Colorado just now. Our son Chris was a national-class Ironman triathlete until Multiple Schlerosis hit. Several years later, he's doing fairly well, still -- a fact he attributes in part to his excellent physical condition. He decided to attempt the 930-mile Race Across the West bicycle race, partly as a fundraiser for MS research, and on his second try, he not only finished, but took third place. 😁 Chris's crew chief, BTW -- to our right of Chris -- is our oldest son Ian.
