Current Goal

To be put into the hands of an “Amazing Race” producer!

About This Item

Be a part of geocaching history! Introducing the first video travel bug designed to get it’s owners’ on a television reality show. We are Bob and Dan from Erie, Pennsylvania. We have been friends for 25 years and want to be on the CBS show “The Amazing Race”, the exciting reality series featuring 11 teams of 2 that race around the globe to a finish line where the winners split a million dollars! Check it out at www.CBS.com.

We have sent in our 10-page application along with video and passport. Now the goal is to get this bug directly into the hands of an Amazing Race producer (or send them to the below link where they can view it online). We are confident that if someone on the production staff views our video, they will want to meet us.

Anyone can claim they made a great 3 minute application video - WE SHOW YOU ! You don’t need to be a fan of “The Amazing Race” to enjoy this, but there are a few in-jokes that diehard viewers will appreciate. The video is in MPEG format. Feel free to make a copy of this CD but please handle with extreme care and do not make modifications of any kind! If it is damaged or unplayable - contact me immediately (J Marac) through Geocaching.com and I will replace it.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?? Do you know any of the Amazing Race producers? Jerry Bruckheimer, Burt Van Muster, Alex Rader, David C. Brown, Allison Chase, Barry Hennessey James E. Wade, Hayma Washington, and Evan Weinstein are some of them. Most geocachers will not know these people personally - and we realize this is an extreme long shot - but we are not intimidated by the odds! If you can’t give this to one of the producers directly, just keep it heading towards California, there lies the best chance for this to get into the right hands. Remember: each step gets us closer!

Also you can cheer us on by posting messages, or writing a review of the video on the geocaching/tracktravelbugs page. Have a camera? Upload a digital picture of yourself or group so we can have a photo record of everyone who helped us on our journey! We will send personal feedback thanking you for your involvement.

Find the bug for final details. (PLEASE NOTE: The travel bug tag is affixed to the inside cover of the case) Thanks everyone and wish us luck!

Want to see the video, but can't get to the actual bug itself? It is now posted for easy viewing on video.google.com You can view or download it by simply going to video.google.com and typing Amazing Race in the Search Video box and you will see it pop up (along with some other Amazing Race hopefuls). Or an even easier way is to go to the following link: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-652202264955089359&q=amazing+race&pl=true

Thanks everyone for all the emails and wishes of good luck. Unfortunately, it appears that it was not meant to be for Bob and I to be on the Amazing Race. I had a lot of fun putting this all together, but let's face it - it's been almost 3 years since our initial launch so I'm sure nothing is going to come of it at this point.

Between video.google and youtube.com this video has been viewed over 5,500 times and I have received email from 3 continents and people all over the U.S. The video is being taken down off the internet and it's time to move on for now. Thanks again everyone.

The Amazing race is my absolute favorite show! We love it because it is based on chance and luck and not a popularity contest. So, when we saw this TB was in a cache near us, I just had to go get it!
So, we "took a chance" that the Spiders that fellow geocachers were talking about, would be gone... no such luck!!
After feeling as though we were on "FEAR Factor", having to face our fears and venture through Nasty Spiders... ( I wanted to back out soo bad, but I wanted the TB so much more) we found the cache. I am telling you, someone should put camera's out there and send it in to "America's Funniest Videos", because I know I was screaming at one point, and my big strong husband fell a couple of times, and threw the backpack, as he walked into webs. Looking back, it would have been hilarious if we weren't so freaked out!
Well, much to our disappointment, when we retrieved the TB, the DVD is gone. Maybe left in someone's DVD player??
Thankfully it was retrieved from the Joshua Tree forest just before the big fires! Amazing!
Don't give up guys!! I hear they are starting a new one...persistance! Your names will be so familiar to them that they will be happy to finally meet you. Slow and steady wins the race! (okay, not all the races, especially the footrace at the end).
I will try to get it directly to CBS studios or at least a nearby cache next week. If I can get my friend to go, she may be just the pushy one you need!
Come on CBS, this would be great TV, so many people have worked so hard for so long to get these guys on, that we would all tune in!!!!
