GLP 03 - Wine & Dine (& Find?) Mystery Cache

España cuenta con más de 1,2 millones de viñedos, lo que le convierte en el país con la mayor extensión cultivada de viñas del mundo, y, en 2021, fue el segundo en cuanto a producción, por detrás de Italia, y por delante de la de Francia y Estados Unidos. Los españoles beben una media de 21,6 litros de vino al año por persona, situándose en el noveno lugar de consumo mundial. (¡Estoy haciendo todo lo posible para mejorar este ranking!)

La Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) es el pilar del sistema de control de calidad del vino de España, y cada región está gobernada por un consejo regulador que decide sobre los límites de la región, variedades permitidas, cosechas máximas, límites de grado alcohólico y demás normas de calidad o limitaciones de producción propias de la zona.

Este mapa muestra las principales regiones productoras de vino de España y necesitarás utilizar este mapa para resolver el rompecabezas.

Un grupo de geocachers planeaba hacer un picnic en la Dehesa del Generalife, una gran área recreativa al este del palacio de la Alhambra. A cada persona se le asignó una tarea diferente para prepararse para el picnic, y a Charo Esteban y Leonor Tello les tocaba comprar todo el vino. Juntas, fueron al lugar favorito de Charo para comprar vino, una pequeña tienda con una selección limitada pero variada de vinos. Ese día los vinos disponibles eran los siguientes:

Tanto Charo como Leonor tienen una preferencia clara con respecto a la procedencia de los vinos, y determinar cuáles son estas dos preferencias es la clave para resolver este cache. Cada una eligió un vino blanco, un vino tinto y un vino espumoso de acuerdo con estas preferencias. Leonor siempre escogía primero, y Charo nunca seleccionaba el mismo vino que Leonor, así que entre ellas seleccionaron 6 vinos diferentes en total.

Aunque solo compraron una botella de vino blanco y una botella de vino tinto cada una, porque iban a celebrar una gran fiesta una semana después del picnic, tanto Charo como Leonor compraron una docena de botellas de vino espumoso. Como Charo era cliente habitual, el dueño le hizo un descuento de 130€ en la docena de espumosos.

En el picnic, los otros geocachers sintieron curiosidad por los vinos. Charo y Leonor les hablaron de las regiones de donde procedían los vinos blancos y los vinos tintos. Sin embargo, cuando se trataba de los vinos espumosos, solo hablaban del precio; Charo porque estaba feliz de haber recibido un gran descuento y Leonor porque estaba molesta porque no le ofreció un descuento.

El grupo se lo pasó tan bien en el picnic bebiendo buen vino, comiendo comida deliciosa y hablando de sus caches favoritos, que decidieron confeccionar y esconder un nuevo cache justo donde estaban haciendo el picnic.

En función de los vinos seleccionados, ¿puedes determinar dónde se realizó el picnic?

Trae tu propio bolígrafo/lápiz. Se necesitarán pinzas para retirar el papel de registro del contenedor.

Interés Turístico:

Si solo has estado en el centro de la ciudad, este cache te llevará a un parque recreativo al este del Palacio de la Alhambra con unas bonitas vistas de la ciudad y alrededores.

Este cache se inspiró por un cache que formó parte de en una serie de caches mistery creados por geocacher ePeterso2 para enseñar a la gente cómo resolver caches mistery. El texto introductorio se ha copiado en su mayor parte de wikipedia. El mapa viene de www.vineyards.com/.

La clasificación de dificultad refleja el hecho de que este cache es más fácil que los dos primeros caches de la serie, tanto en términos del rompecabezas como del contenedor en sí.

Cuando comencé con el geocaching, había muchos caches mistery ingeniosos en Granada, junto con muchos contenedores con camuflajes originales. Estos caches me sorprendieron, supusieron verdaderos desafíos y su resolución fue muy gratificante (aunque a veces necesitaba varios meses para resolver los enigmas). Ello hizo que me enganchara al geocaching. Lamentablemente, la mayoría de los propietarios de estos geocaches se han retirado del juego y la mayoría de sus caches ahora están archivados. La serie Granada Loves Puzzles (GLP) es mi intento de crear nuevos caches mistery en Granada del estilo que a mí más me gusta buscar.

Spain has over 1.2 million hectares planted in wine grapes, making it the largest wine country in terms of land dedicated to vineyards, and, in 2021, the second largest producer of wine in the world, behind Italy, but ahead of France and the United States. On average, Spaniards drink 21.6 litres per person each year, placing it ninth in worldwide consumption. (I’m doing everything I can to improve this ranking!)

Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP; “protected denomination of origin”) is the mainstay of Spain's wine quality control system, and each region is governed by a regulatory council which decides on the boundaries of the region, permitted varietals, maximum yields, limits of alcoholic strength and other quality standards or production limitations pertaining to the zone.

This map shows the main wine producing regions in Spain and you will need to use this map to solve the puzzle.

A group of geocachers were planning to have a picnic in the Dehesa del Generalife, a large recreational area to the east of the Alhambra palace. Each person was given a different task to prepare for the picnic, and the task of buying all of the wine fell to Andrew Estridge and Conor Thompson. Together, they went to Andrew’s favourite place to buy wine, a small shop with a limited, but varied selection of wine. On that day the wines available were as follows:

Andrew and Conor each have a clear preference regarding where their favourite wines come from, and determining what these two preferences are is the key to solving this cache. Each chose one white wine, one red wine, and one sparkling wine according to these preferences. Conor always chose first, and Andrew never selected the same wine as Conor, so between them, they selected 6 different wines in total.

Although they only bought one bottle of white wine and one bottle of red wine each, because they were going to hold a large party one week after the picnic, Andrew and Conor both purchased one dozen bottles of sparkling wines. Because Andrew was a regular customer, the owner gave him a discount of 130€ on the dozen sparkling wines.

At the picnic, the other geocachers were curious about the wines. Andrew and Conor told them about the regions where the white and red wines came from. However, when it came to the sparkling wines, all they could talk about was the price; Andrew because he was happy to have received a large discount, and Conor because he was annoyed he wasn’t offered a discount.

The group had such a great time at the picnic drinking fine wine, eating delicious food, and talking about their favourite geocaches, that they decided to make and hide a new cache right where they were having the picnic.

Based upon their wine choices, can you determine where the picnic was held?

You will need to bring your own pen/pencil. Tweezers are needed to remove the log paper from the container.

Tourist Interest:

If you have only been in the centre of the city, this cache will take you to a recreational area east of the Alhambra Palace with some nice views of the city and surrounds.

This cache was inspired by a cache that was part of a series of mystery caches created by geocacher ePeterso2 to teach people how to solve mystery caches. The introductory text has mostly been copied from wikipedia. The map comes from www.vineyards.com/.

The difficulty rating reflects the fact that this cache is easier than the first two caches in the series, both in terms of the puzzle as well as the container itself.

When I first started geocaching, there were many ingenious puzzle caches in Granada, along with many containers with inventive camouflage. They were surprising, challenging and satisfying (despite the fact that sometimes I needed many months to solve some of the puzzles), and are what got me hooked on geocaching. Sadly, most of the owners of these geocaches have retired from the game and most of their caches are now archived. The Granada Loves Puzzles (GLP) series is my attempt to create some new puzzle caches in Granada in the style that I most enjoy finding.
