The 15th barn is located at 244 Center Road. Many changes have occurred since Andy and Julie Thomas purchased the 50-acre farm, known as the Top of the Center, from the VonSteins in 2002. The most visible change is the replacement of the Irish setter that had graced the barn for many years, with the 15th quilt block along the Clinton County Barn Quilt Trail.

The “Handy Andy” quilt design on the barn was popular prior to the availability of printed patterns and has gone by many other names. This block reflects the hard work and many hours that owners Andy and Julie have put into the careful restoration of the house and barn.

Daniel Duval was the original owner of the farmland in 1795. It was later divided into smaller plots and David Miars purchased the parcel which now has the house and barn. The house was built in approximately 1821 of stone that was quarried near the property. The walls are solid stone and about two feet thick. This house was a rarity at the time it was built, not just because of the solid stone construction, but also because of the two-story design.

The English style barn with the pitched gable roof and eaves was originally built circa 1825 and was later sided to preserve it. The property was in the Miars family for many generations before being sold to the VonSteins in the 1990s.

The Thomases moved to Ohio from California to enjoy a slower pace and chose Wilmington for its small town charm. They said they are pleased to be a part of the Bicentennial Barn Quilt Trail and hope that people will enjoy the quilt trail as much as they enjoy being a part of it.

This location you might see a few of the owners dogs but do not fear as their invisible fence line ends before the cache location and they are really friendly.
