Geocache of the Week Flashback Edition: Taipei Beimen Post Office / 臺北北門郵局
You’ve got mail!
This Geocache Of The Week blog is a love letter to a fantastic Letterbox Hybrid geocache hidden in the last (or maybe first) place anyone would think to look—inside a post office! And it’s not just any post office, it’s the historic Taipei Beimen Post Office in Taiwan.
We first featured Taipei Beimen Post Office / 臺北北門郵局 (GC3NXZV) as Geocache Of The Week in 2017. But this cache was such a delight we wanted to share it again! This time, we won’t just tell you about it, we want to show you!
As many geocachers know, it’s not always easy to hide a geocache of this size in a city, especially not a bustling metropolis like Taipei. But clever cache owner Kakoui had the brilliant idea to put this cache under lock and key—literally!

The key to our heart is good cache maintenance. However, the key to this cache is hidden at the listed coordinates. Geocachers must follow the clues to find a key hiding in plain sight. But where is the lock?

Kakoui provides all the information needed to find this cache in the nearby Taipei Beimen Post Office. Named for the nearby North Gate (Beimen) of Old Taipei City, this post office was established in 1895 and rebuilt in 1930. Many consider both the gate and the post office to be national historic sites.

The cache lies hidden among the countless rows of P.O. boxes in a quiet hallway off the second floor. Like any good Letterbox, this geocache is filled with postcards from around the world and, of course, a stamp. Geocachers are encouraged to trade postcards and stamps, as well as any trackables that have stopped by for a visit.

So whether you’re a Letterbox enthusiast or just a fan of snail mail, this geocache is a must-visit destination to add to your list!
