Fun ways to celebrate World Postcard Day

After a successful introduction of World Postcard Day to the geocaching community in 2024, we are excited to celebrate geocaching and postcard communities again this year.

To mark the date and earn this special souvenir, attend any geocaching Event from September 28 to October 4, 2025.

If you’d like to add some postcard-themed activities to your Event, we have some fun suggestions for inspiration.

Embrace your creativity

Break out your markers, stickers, and favorite supplies because it’s time to get creative! There are no rules when it comes to making postcards—the more fun you have, the better!

Feeling bold? Try using bright colors, specialized fonts, and textured materials.
Feeling unique? Experiment with creating a collage by using magazine cutouts, scrap fabric, or recycled materials.
Feeling adventurous? Use pieces of maps, create passport stamps, or add travel quotes.

The possibilities are endless—as long as you keep within your country’s postcard size and stamp guidelines.

Download and print these postcards with your local printing shop or an online printing service. Make sure the paper you use is thick enough to send! Check with your local postal service for the required dimensions.

If you provide postcards at your Event, consider using one as an Event log sheet. You can even make copies for attendees to keep or send to a friend!

Event themes

Consider these fun activities for an unforgettable World Postcard Day Event:

  • Postcard swap: invite geocachers to bring postcards from their hometowns or recent travels, and have attendees exchange them.
  • Postcard art contest: invite attendees to design postcards inspired by geocaching adventures.
  • Storytelling through postcards: Ask attendees to write about their geocaching stories or memories on their postcards and create a collage, combining all postcards.
  • Trackables: Have attendees retrieve trackables dropped in the Event and make postcards that match their trackable’s mission.

Find a penpal

What good is a postcard without a recipient? Consider swapping postcards with other geocachers at the Event or setting up a pen pal swap for interested attendees through websites like Postcrossing.
