Ring Quest XIX: The Three: Vilya

The ring Vilya, made of gold and adorned with a great blue stone, was the mightiest of the three Elf rings. The name is derived from the Quenya word meaning air, and it was also called Ring of Air, Ring of Firmament, or the Blue Ring. Its wielder apparently could control minor elements, as when Elrond summoned a torrent of water as the Nazgûl attempted to capture Frodo and the One Ring.

When Sauron laid waste to Eregion, Vilya was sent to the Elven-king Gil-galad far away in Lindon, where it was later given to Elrond, Lord of Rivendell, who bore it through the later years of the Second Age and all of the Third. Upon Sauron's destruction, the power of Vilya faded, and it was taken over the sea by Elrond at the end of the Third Age.

The beautiful Elven outpost of Rivendell was located at the edge of a narrow gorge of the river Bruinen. This cache is hidden in the woods near the banks of a somewhat smaller waterway. To reach it, park at the suggested parking coordinates and cross the creek at the crossing waypoint coordinates. It’s a fairly easy hike, with no real bushwhacking until the final thirty feet. The cache contains trade items, a log book, and information necessary to find the final cache and retrieve the One Ring. The clues use symbols from the Elven alphabet of Tengwar. Bring something to copy them down.
