Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for January.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the Featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In December, Wayne, a.k.a. Moneydork was recognized for establishing himself as one of Australasian’s most prolific geocachers. His efforts to support the community as a Geocaching volunteer reviewer and good Samaritan have not gone unnoticed. He even managed to organize New Zealand’s very first Mega-Event from 3500 km (2175 miles) away. According to fellow geocachers, Moneydork’s hides and events are legendary Down Under and he never hesitates to give his all to the sport.

Here are your nominees for the January Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Kirret

Kirret

Mr Bluesky writes, “On November 29th, Don, [a.k.a. Kirret] will have found a geocache every single day of the year, since November 2011.  He has done this in three different countries and on two continents. This year alone he has found over 1,700 geocaches, including a grand haul of 100 on March the 27th. Don worked in Scotland in 2010 and 2011 and I got to meet him through geocaching. We immediately became firm friends. I had the pleasure of geocaching with him in Canada in July 2012 and then again on August 18th in Scotland. Don is very enthusiastic about geocaching and has, just by meeting people while out geocaching, gotten many involved in this hobby by informing them of what he was doing and how enjoyable it is. He mostly geocaches with his wife and son and is one of Guildford, England’s most prolific geocachers. He is out in all weather conditions with a smile on his face and a GPS in hand. I think his achievements this year is a remarkable feat.”

The Raven

The Raven

ttcm4geo writes, “If you visit Prescott, Arizona as we were one weekend, you will note something curious. Many of the geocaches you visit will have a note stating that ‘while you are in Prescott, you must find a geocache called Raven’s Labyrynth.’ So many geocacher said this that we finally decided to pursue it. The geocache itself is amazing, which I am sure took weeks to construct. Then we found out that the geocache owner has many similarly thought-out geocaches in the area. In fact, Prescott is known as ‘Ravenland.’ But, even more amazing is that if you email Dan, a.k.a. The Raven with a question, he promptly replies and tells you to call him. So we called him and got some assistance. He was very nice, and you can tell that his only goal is to help people enjoy geocaching. His geocaches are creative, well thought out and so much fun. He does all this work for people many of whom he will never meet. Therefore, I think he deserves this recognition.”

The Weasel

The Weasel

SuperGoober writes, “Tim, a.k.a. The Weasel is what geocaching is all about. He gives back so much more than he takes. He hosted the very first CITO in the Midwest: EIGA 2004 CEDAR RAPIDS CITO EVENT. He is an active member and Board Director for the Iowa Geocacher Organization and a volunteer for the Linn County Conservation. Tim has conducted and assisted in over 50 geocaching 101, 201 and 301 classes and workshops throughout the State of Iowa and abroad. His knowledge of the wilderness extends well beyond that of an average geocacher. He uses his extensive knowledge of the outdoors to help other geocachers by placing some very creative and educational geocaches. The Weasel has an impeccable sense as to what geocaching is all about. He realizes that cache maintenance is very necessary to ensure that geocaching is fun and that the geocache is there. He is just unstoppable.”

  1. The Raven is a real asset to the community in Prescott who has inspired many a “cacher” through his clinics and lunches, myself included. He gives selflessly of himself and has worked tirelessly to promote the hobby.

  2. While I don’t know any of the cachers, I’ve heard really cool stories of Ravenland and The Raven from cachers in Chicago. I hope to make my way there some day! My vote is for The Raven

  3. The Raven is truly deserving! He has put Prescott AZ on the geomap! Ravenland is incredible!!!

  4. The Weasel is a very enthusiastic Geocacher always looking to post another interesting and creative hide. He likes to keep his cache karma up so that he is giving back to the activity. His puzzle caches are educational and always taking you to creative and interesting locations you never knew existed. He is always willing to provide a hand when seeking advice. He is one to get involved in the community to portray a better image for the geocaching world. He has participated in the local Board of Directors and gets involved in sub committees. He is a good cacher and a good friend. I am Happy to know Tim!

  5. Just reading the description makes me want to visit Prescott, AZ. I’m voting for the Raven.

  6. The Raven! Daniel is a way cool guy and has some of the most innovative caches in the state of Arizona. He has put the fun into just going up to Prescott!

  7. The Raven, Dan can go to a location and can imagine exactly the cache that belongs there.

  8. Having cached in all 50 states and 28 countries and with over 16,000 caches I can say we have never found any caches that compares to the raven’s. He is simply the best. He has the city and several businesses on board with him and is rapidly making Prescott a caching destination.

We have found several of his caches and they are certainly not the run of the mill hides. They are well thought out and challenging.

He is always willing to help and fun to cache with.

It is too bad that he has a job so he can’t build caches full time.

  9. I’m voting for Kirret, he was quite a prodigious and inventive catcher during the time he was staying up here in Scotland and chalked up lots of Ftf’s as I discovered several times when I arrived to find I was second.

  10. Kirret for sure, have you seen what this guy has managed?I have been very fortunate to have met this guy and he really is The Cachers Cacher! Go Kirret!!

  11. The Raven! He’s so involved with geocaching that a large part of the country now refers to Prescott, AZ as “Ravenland”. He works with (not for) the city around his really creative caches and it’s been recognized that he is helping greatly with tourism for the city. There are even financial penalties if you mess with his caches.

Beside just being pivotal for Prescott and AZ in general, he’s one of the nicest and most welcoming people you’d ever want to meet.

  12. I have to go with the Weasel all the way! He is ALWAYS willing to help any geocacher at ANY time. Not only that, he has a GREAT maintenance challenge cache that rewards people for keeping their caches in good shape, as well as fixing other caches that need it. To me, this is a no-brainer….The Weasel all the way!

  13. The Raven is well known in Arizona for his clever and well done caches. Ravenland is a destination as much as the city of Prescott where he resides. He is well deserving of this honor. My vote is for the Raven.

  14. I have to give my vote to The Weasel. He has done a lot of great caches. He has made a LOT of educational caches that deal with the outdoors like birds, trees, skulls, sounds, etc. He is currently involved with the Iowa Geocachers Organization with the cache of the month for this group and has worked to get a pathtag created for this. He is has helped place a very successful and creative powertrail in which MANY of the caches on it have favorites. The Weasel is also very active with the Linn County Conservation in creating this as well as other caches. Thanks Weasel for all you do!

  15. The Raven gets my vote! Not only does he have stunning caches but he also works closely with the Prescott parks. The parks personnel in the area are solidly behind The Raven and his caches.

  16. I visit Prescott, AZ twice a year (from Honolulu, HI) and THE highlight of my stay is finding caches by The Raven. The unique thing about several of his hides is that you will not hesitate to visit them over and over again (go read the logs for GC35BKD -The Raven’s Labyrinth !!! ) . The Raven has worked alongside city officials who have embraced geocaching as a positive family activity for the city of Prescott. Best of all, he is a darn nice guy!!

  17. Oh, Dan is The Man! I had the pleasure of meeting The Raven at an Event as he was providing personal instructions on the fine art of Oragami. Evidently making a bird out of a piece of paper is required for one of his amazing cache placements. His friendliness came across at that first meeting, and his ability to create fun and different caches seems to be never ending.

  18. The Raven. People everywhere in Arizona know all about him and encourage others to head to Prescott to do his caches. While I have not yet made it up from Tucson to do that, his creativity and commitment to excellence sound incredible. I had a chance to meet Dan last month in Phoenix at an event. I was taken aback by how humble and kind and soft spoken he was; a true gentleman. And as others have said, he is working with the city of Prescott to place these caches. How wonderful that we can get an entire town on board to stand as an example to other possible cities in the future! Dan and Ravenland totally deserves this!

  19. I vote for The Weasel. Tim is a great asset to the Cedar Rapids, Iowa and surronding area. He places caches that help you learn about the playground we play in. His outdoor lessons series touches on many areas of knowledge that as you solve the puzzles you can’t help but be better informed the next time you head down a trail. On a personal note, Tim has always had time to talk with me, and give me a nudge in the right direction if I get stuck on one of his caches. The Weasel has helped make Eastern Iowa is a great place to cache

  20. The Raven, absolutely. Besides being a tremendously creative cacher, he’s a very down-to-earth person who’ll help and share his experiences with you. He helped get the town of Prescott AZ to accept and become involved in geocaching; it made the news over a pretty widespread area. When somebody asks me to talk about really interesting caches, the stories I’ve heard about his come to mind– he’s an excellent choice!

  21. I simply have to vote for The Raven. His cache, Raven’s Labyrinth, has been on my bucket list of caches to get since I started geocaching a year and a half ago. Ravenland sounds like a wonderful place, and any cacher who is willing to respond rapidly to requests of help with their phone number is a good one in my book. Good luck, Raven, and I hope to see you as the winner for January GOTM!

  22. I have to go with the Raven, his caches in the Prescott area are some of the absolute best caches we have ever done in the 7 years we’ve been caching. Such imagination and effort put into his caches, is amazing. Good luck!!

  23. The Raven has a really impressive resume. Even in NJ his hides and puzzle have been talked about. So much so, that several players are seriously looking at vacationing in the Prescott area just to find his caches.

  24. The Raven. My son and I have had an absolute blast finding all of his caches, we make sure we go after them together. His caches are genius and he spends a great portion of his personal time making sure all cachers enjoy their Prescott experience not just with his caches, but everyones. Most of the time if someone calls him about a cache he will drop what he is doing and offer to help them or guide them through the area. He is probably the friendliest guy on the planet. And The Ravens Labyrinth is simply a classic, and belongs in the Geocaching Hall of Fame, if it is ever founded…

  25. Of coarse the Raven. But don’t let his head get too big, it might not fit into his new cache….. Oh wait, never mind, his next cache WILL be that BIG!

  26. Vote for The Weasel. Tim was one of the original members of Eastern Iowa Geocachers Assn (predecessor to Iowa Geocachers Org) and has done so much to expand geocaching in Iowa by placing high quality caches and hosting events.

  27. Where did this picture of The Raven come from?!? I love it. it really captures his boyish spirit. So silly! The Raven has my vote. Caches worth traveling to and talk about. Can’t wait for “Beetlejuice”.

  28. The Raven, absolutely. Dan is a creative cacher and a down-to-earth person. Dan helped get the town of Prescott AZ to accept and become involved in geocaching. Other cachers in Prescott refer to a few of his caches as “must do” when in the area. Dan is an excellent choice for GOTM and has my vote.

  29. The Raven gets our vote. We’ve heard such good things about his caches that we’re making a detour after Geocoinfest Las Vegas to hit them!

  30. They all are incredible geocachers. My vote is for TheRaven because I really enjoy the caches that are complex and challenging. I am in California and plan to visit Prescott on a geocache adventure someday to find those caches.
