November Geocacher of the Month Nominees – Add Your Comment

From the cold winter nights in the frigid north to the warm beaches of tropical paradise, the nominees for Geocacher of the Month share (at least) one thing in common: dedication.

Each nominee is being honored for their contributions to the geocaching community. Each will receive worldwide recognition and a prize package from Geocaching HQ in Seattle, but which will be named Geocacher of the Month?

This is your opportunity to  help decide who will take home the earned, never for sale, Geocacher of the Month geocoin (at left). Each featured Geocacher of the Month will receive the exclusive special edition Geocoin, a hat and a profile icon. They’ll also receive a certificate acknowledging their contributions, signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com.

In October, Mic68 was named Geocacher of the Month.

One geocacher who commented wrote, “After visiting (Mic68’s)“Dragonheart” I kept referring to this cache as the best I’ve ever done. By now they have published another one which we have just finished a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that this cache definitely is a milestone in geocaching! Wow! In Germany people are willing to travel quite a bit if the cache is worth it and I see people flocking in. The mixture of storytelling, suspense, technical know-how and fun is hard to beat.  Also, this team is immensely nice and helpful! All in all they are very worthy candidates and I would be happy for them to win!”

Now it’s your turn to help us select the next Geocacher of the Month. Write a supportive comment at the bottom of this blog for the nominated geocacher that you feel should be awarded the title. A panel of folks from Geocaching HQ will then use your comments to help guide the decision of which geocacher is awarded the Geocacher of the Month honor.

Milton Munoz writes, “Janizy has been one of most outstanding geocachers in the history of the hobby in Puerto Rico. She started 4 and half years ago, since then she is being a leader, creating events and inviting geocachers to the most beautiful places of the island. Her caches combine a wide variety of clever ideas and diabolic camouflages, which have become the most wanted (and frightful too) in the local arena. She has created one the most successful Multi-Cache in the south part of the island, inviting geocachers to do CITO in a beautiful coastal valley area.

Janizy has involved her entire family into the hobby: husband, 2 daughters, brother, sister, brother in law, niece and nephews. Janizy and her family are known as one the most successful FTF (First to Find) hunters of the island. Janizy has a great passion for the photography too and always is taking pictures and recording video of every geocaching adventure and produces excellent videos that she uploads in her YouTube and Vimeo channels. Janizy combines pretty well her profession as Special Education Teacher and her passion for the geocaching, recently she created the first Earth Cache published by a local geocacher on the island. For all the energy and interest that Janizy puts in to geocaching, she deserves to be honored as the geocacher of the month!”

Gary Goodyear writes, “I would like to submit BIGBROTHERBEAR as the Geocacher of the Month.  BBB (bigbrotherbear) and his series Quest For The Holy Grail (GC3WKNB) was an inspiration for us. Jim (bigbrotherbear) spent months planning and researching the series.  BBB has taken time out of his life for so many people to accompany them on this journey. If someone needs some help while out on the trail he is more than willing to do this for them, not just a nudge or hint, he will bring them water, food or whatever they need. BBB is involved with the Iowa Geocaching  Organization. He has hidden many caches to help make the events successful for them.

BigBrotherBear is more than the average cacher. He contributes countless hours to the community as well. His series Quest For The Hoiy Grail won the IGO peoples choice for outstanding series of 2013.

If you look at the entire series you will see that it has been awarded more than 650 favorite points in total. BBB has hiked this series with several of the teams. 8-12 miles of rough terrain, hills, river crossings and wild life. BBB is planning a new series that involves over 161 well placed caches. It has been placed submitted and is awaiting review.

BBB will take the time to get the permission to place the caches and he also maintains them. I found one of his bike trail geocaches that was in need of repair. I called BBB and told him about this. The next day he was at the site and had repaired it.”

 

 

NorthWes

NorthWes - Nominee for Geocacher of the Month
NorthWes – Nominee for Geocacher of the Month

Darlene Fortin writes, “I would like to nominate NorthWes of Anchorage, Alaska for geocacher of the month. NorthWes is the president of Geocache Alaska. NorthWes is a man of knowledge on his state and on Geocaching. Northwes took time out of busy life to help me organize Events and Geocaching tours for 72 geocachers who were cruising from Vancouver to Alaska. Northwes organized a Meet and Greet for the Cruisers and the locals to meet each other and supplied some awesome prizes for the Event. Northwes is a very respected cacher in his area and has many caches throughout Anchorage and works hard to keep his and other caches in the area maintained. He also guided many of us on private geocaching tours through many of the parks in Anchorage. His knowledge of Alaska was amazing to help us with the many earthcaches through out Alaska.

NorthWes also helped me with all the paperwork to make Bermuda Island Geocachers a non-profit organization. His organization is well established and has members all over the world.

He is for sure one of the best ambassador for Geocaching and is well respected by his local cachers and now all the cachers that were cruising from all over the states and Bermuda. This man surely deserves to be recognized for all his hard work he has put into geocaching for Alaska!”

  • Your name, the name of your nominee, their username
  • A picture of the nominee
  • Description (200 or more words) explaining why he or she deserves to be the Geocacher of the Month

Please inform your nominee that you have submitted them for the award. Nominations for the next Geocacher of the Month should be received by January 3. Once Geocaching HQ has received the nominations, we will choose the top candidates and post them on the blog. You will then get a chance to champion your favorite. Our goal is to involve the entire geocaching community in this process so that we might learn from each other.

  1. Kudos to BIGBROTHERBEAR for his nomination as geocacher of the month. I’ve been lucky enough to cache with BBB multiple times. He is passionate about the game and is constantly turning over new ideas in his head regarding caches to hide. His philosophy of caching is fresh and inviting. He strives to place quality caches and is constantly challenging the seeker of his hides. BIGBROTHERBEAR always has a glad hand and a smile on his face when he meets someone for the first time. Chat with him for just a few moments, and you realize how much geocaching means to him.
    The “G” Men series north of Dubuque, Iowa is put in place by a team of three cachers, but the idea, the cache page creation and the majority of the placements of the caches were by BIGBROTHERBEAR himself! Imagine a series where, if you find all the caches, you fill your Fizzy grid not once, but TWICE! The theme of the series also adds an added dimension to all of the caches.
    Creativity, dedication to maintenance, and a constant push to make the game a little better every day – THAT is why BIGBROTHERBEAR should be the Cacher of the Month!

  4. JANICY representa lo que es geocaching, . Ella es una apasionada del geocaching, sus caches son muy originales, siempre hay una aventura cuando invita a un evento o a un geotrip .

  5. Our vote is for JANIZY!!!! she has some of the best geocaches in the island and all the community enjoy her events.

  9. Wow so happy to see the amazing Janizy as a nominee. This lady is not just a geocacher by heart she is the glue between us. The organizer the team player, the preserver of rules and has become a friend.

  18. I feel honored that Janizy began on this hobby because she was inspired by one of my Geocaching videos a few years ago. Now she’s a pillar on the island’s geocaching community and for some reason, like a daughter, she has a place in my geocaching heart. She definitely deserves to be geocacher of the month. CACHE OR DIE GIRL!!!!

  19. I have done his series Quest For The Holy Grail and it is amazing. I am looking forward to taking on his latest series. My vote is for BIGBROTHERBEAR.

  20. Janizy!!! An avid geocacher and event, geotrip planner. Her events are full of fun and planning one with her and her “team” is even better. Her caches are some of the best caches around. She takes us to places unknown to most of us and spectacular views. Her containers, that’s another story. You have to plan to spend sometime in the search part of geocaching. Very original and well hidden. For this and for all she has done for geocaching she deserves the prize…

  23. I started my geocaching journey with Jan1zy’s diabolic geocaches haha. She have the talent of finding the most wonderful places on the island and creating a great containers to give you an experience you will never forget. She is always creating events to unite the geocaching comunity such as meet and greets, managed various Fear of the Dark events (Halloween themed challenge on the island) and trips to the different wonders of the island of enchantment. There are not just park and grab geocaches… they make you think, hike and explore!

    That’s why I would like to vote for Jan1zy as geocacher for the month.

  25. My vote goes to Janizy, she deserves to win! Her positive attitude towards the geocacher and local GC community makes her one the best geocaches of Puerto Rico! She is the life and soul of the party! 🙂

  29. Our first 5, 5 caches were placed by BigBrotherBear. Since then he continues to challenge us. When you think caching is becoming humdrum, he comes along with a new series to spark interest. He is very dedicated to the sport.

  31. My vote is for BIGBROTHERBEAR. His Holy Grail series is AWESOME!!!!! He goes above and beyond when it comes to geocaching. I’ve gotten to know do to the local Hike -n- Seek where he made several 110 mile trips to hide caches. Way to go BBB!!!!!

  36. BigBrotherBear gets my vote for this honor. I did his famous Quest series with 5 other cachers and had a blast. Every single one of the caches in the series was a challenge. 2/3 of the way through, he joined us and was surprised that we were that far along. After hiking 15+ miles, these caches earn a fav point from me. To top it off, I now can view a peace sign made up of smiley faces in Iowa. I am looking forward to his new series!!

  40. I WOULD VOTE FOR BIGBROTHERBEAR, I WAS WITH A GROUP OF CACHERS THAT DID THE QUEST FOR THE HOLY GRAIL. WHAT A GREAT SET UP. ALL HIS CACHES ARE WELL THOUGHT OUT

  42. I vote for NorthWes. When we visited Alaska, he made us feel very welcome at an event that Geocache Alaska hosted in our honour. A real asset to this game.

  45. Big Brother Bear definitely gets our vote! His passion for all aspects of Geocaching (finding, hiding, maintaining, etc.) is truly incredible. He hiked with a group of us when we were doing his Quest for the Holy Grail series, and it was such a pleasure to chat with him and hear some of his experiences, as well as some amazing ideas for new caches! Every favorite point given to his caches is very well deserved. Good luck BBB!

  46. I am very sure that the geocachers BigBrotherBear and NorthWes who are also nominated are very deserving of the acknowledgement of geocacher of the month. Nevertheless, my vote is for Janizy. I have had the honor of getting to know Janizy in person, and she and her family have been the greatest influence so that geocaching becomes one of the activities that I most like to practice. Janizy promotes geocaching in our island by planning trips, camping weekends, meet & greets, etc. for the joy of all with their families. Her love for geocaching is noticeable not only in her geocaches, but also in the events she has execute. You just need to see her Photos to have an idea of how much she loves to do geocaching. Thanks to her geocaches, we have been able to visit spectacular places that we would have never even thought of visiting. Because of this and more, she deserves to be geocacher of the month.

  47. My vote is for Janizy. This girl is amazing! Once you go in a geotrip with her, she makes you feel as a long time friend. Her love for nature and the creative ways that she use to hide caches makes her very valuable for geocaching.

  48. Geocacher of the Month of

    Why do I vote for this amazing geocacher? She plays the game,
    and her participation is always in company of her family: daughters, brothers,
    and of course, her husband. Many times you will see many of her friends as
    well. She has demonstrated how geocaching brings family and friends together.
    Her camera is always with her showing the geocachers the beauties and the fun
    of geocaching.

    She supports other geocacher’s meet and greet events and
    other geocahing events. Also she creates her own events, bringing together many
    geocachers from all over the island.

    I have seen geocachers who have come back from retirement and
    kept playing after participating in the events she has created.

    She was the first Puerto Rico native to place an earth-cache in Puerto Rico

    I could continue on because she is an amazing example of a
    geocacher. She is my geocacher of the month of November 2013.

  49. I VOTE FOR JANIZY, I HAVE MET THIS DINAMIC LADY AND HER FAMILY ON EVENTS. SHE IS ON THE GO ALL THE TIME KEEPS HER FAMILY ON THE GO AND WHO EVER IS AROUND HER HAS TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE TO KEEP UP WITH HER. SHE IS A GREAT WORKING WOMAN AND A LOVEING MOM HER HUSBAND HAS A GREAT WOMAN AT HIS SIDE HE ALSO IS A GOER FOR THE GEOCACHE, BUT JANICY LOVES GEOCACHING SHE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD.BELIVE IT OR NOT ALL THE GEOCACHERS OF PR MUST KNOW HER . SHE IS EVERY WHERE, JUST TRY TO KEEP UP WITH HER.NO TIME TO CATCH YOUR BREATH, JUST KEEP MOVEING. SHE IS A PETTIT WOMAN BUT VERY BIG IN HEART.

  50. While anyone receiving these nominations is sure to be a great asset to the caching community, we’ll add our vote for Big Brother Bear. We’ve enjoyed completing his Holy Grail series, and recently completed most of the G-Men series. We’ve enjoyed his company while caching another series in the beautiful Whitewater Canyon area southwest of Dubuque, and he really has a knack for finding places worth bringing people to explore.
