Each nominee is being honored for their contributions to the geocaching community. Each will receive worldwide recognition and a prize package from Geocaching HQ in Seattle, but which will be named Geocacher of the Month?

This is your opportunity to  help decide who will take home the earned, never for sale, Geocacher of the Month geocoin (at left). Each featured Geocacher of the Month will receive the exclusive special edition Geocoin, a hat and a profile icon. They’ll also receive a certificate acknowledging their contributions, signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com.

Mic68 - October Geocacher of the Month
Mic68 – October Geocacher of the Month

In October, Mic68 was named Geocacher of the Month.

One geocacher who commented wrote, “After visiting (Mic68’s)“Dragonheart” I kept referring to this cache as the best I’ve ever done. By now they have published another one which we have just finished a couple of weeks ago and I have to say that this cache definitely is a milestone in geocaching! Wow! In Germany people are willing to travel quite a bit if the cache is worth it and I see people flocking in. The mixture of storytelling, suspense, technical know-how and fun is hard to beat.  Also, this team is immensely nice and helpful! All in all they are very worthy candidates and I would be happy for them to win!”

Now it’s your turn to help us select the next Geocacher of the Month. Write a supportive comment at the bottom of this blog for the nominated geocacher that you feel should be awarded the title. A panel of folks from Geocaching HQ will then use your comments to help guide the decision of which geocacher is awarded the Geocacher of the Month honor.

Here are your nominees for the November Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Janizy

Janizy – Geocacher of the Month Nominee

Milton Munoz writes, “Janizy has been one of most outstanding geocachers in the history of the hobby in Puerto Rico. She started 4 and half years ago, since then she is being a leader, creating events and inviting geocachers to the most beautiful places of the island. Her caches combine a wide variety of clever ideas and diabolic camouflages, which have become the most wanted (and frightful too) in the local arena. She has created one the most successful Multi-Cache in the south part of the island, inviting geocachers to do CITO in a beautiful coastal valley area.

Janizy has involved her entire family into the hobby: husband, 2 daughters, brother, sister, brother in law, niece and nephews. Janizy and her family are known as one the most successful FTF (First to Find) hunters of the island. Janizy has a great passion for the photography too and always is taking pictures and recording video of every geocaching adventure and produces excellent videos that she uploads in her YouTube and Vimeo channels. Janizy combines pretty well her profession as Special Education Teacher and her passion for the geocaching, recently she created the first Earth Cache published by a local geocacher on the island. For all the energy and interest that Janizy puts in to geocaching, she deserves to be honored as the geocacher of the month!”

BIGBROTHERBEAR

BIGBROTHERBEAR - Nominee for Geocacher of the Month
BIGBROTHERBEAR – Nominee for Geocacher of the Month

Gary Goodyear writes, “I would like to submit BIGBROTHERBEAR as the Geocacher of the Month.  BBB (bigbrotherbear) and his series Quest For The Holy Grail (GC3WKNB) was an inspiration for us. Jim (bigbrotherbear) spent months planning and researching the series.  BBB has taken time out of his life for so many people to accompany them on this journey. If someone needs some help while out on the trail he is more than willing to do this for them, not just a nudge or hint, he will bring them water, food or whatever they need. BBB is involved with the Iowa Geocaching  Organization. He has hidden many caches to help make the events successful for them.

BigBrotherBear is more than the average cacher. He contributes countless hours to the community as well. His series Quest For The Hoiy Grail won the IGO peoples choice for outstanding series of 2013.

If you look at the entire series you will see that it has been awarded more than 650 favorite points in total. BBB has hiked this series with several of the teams. 8-12 miles of rough terrain, hills, river crossings and wild life. BBB is planning a new series that involves over 161 well placed caches. It has been placed submitted and is awaiting review.

BBB will take the time to get the permission to place the caches and he also maintains them. I found one of his bike trail geocaches that was in need of repair. I called BBB and told him about this. The next day he was at the site and had repaired it.”

NorthWes

NorthWes - Nominee for Geocacher of the Month
NorthWes – Nominee for Geocacher of the Month

Darlene Fortin writes, “I would like to nominate NorthWes of Anchorage, Alaska for geocacher of the month. NorthWes is the president of Geocache Alaska. NorthWes is a man of knowledge on his state and on Geocaching. Northwes took time out of busy life to help me organize Events and Geocaching tours for 72 geocachers who were cruising from Vancouver to Alaska. Northwes organized a Meet and Greet for the Cruisers and the locals to meet each other and supplied some awesome prizes for the Event. Northwes is a very respected cacher in his area and has many caches throughout Anchorage and works hard to keep his and other caches in the area maintained. He also guided many of us on private geocaching tours through many of the parks in Anchorage. His knowledge of Alaska was amazing to help us with the many earthcaches through out Alaska.

NorthWes also helped me with all the paperwork to make Bermuda Island Geocachers a non-profit organization. His organization is well established and has members all over the world.

He is for sure one of the best ambassador for Geocaching and is well respected by his local cachers and now all the cachers that were cruising from all over the states and Bermuda. This man surely deserves to be recognized for all his hard work he has put into geocaching for Alaska!”

  1. I vote for BigBrotherBear! He has worked hard and is diligent at placing cahes in the area and helping geocachers. I can’t wait for Spring to come so I can head out and do his G-Men series. I know a lot of hard work went into putting the series together and we all apprieciate his time and effort, not only for this cache, but for all he has placed!

For two consecutive years she (and her crew) plans the best competition
ever, The Fear of the Dark, which is celebrate on October.
We had a lot of fun so, my vote is for Janizy. Thanks for make possible those horrors nights.

    Sincerely,
    I_Grover

    Keep
    Caching!!!!!!!

  3. I admire all three of the nominees and I would love to know each of them personally. But my vote goes to BigBrotherBear. His caches are fun and challenging and you can’t ask for a better person to cache with. Go BBB!

    Oh, by the way….

My vote for Geocacher of the Month is for BIGBROTHERBEAR !!!
His cache hides are TOP NOTCH.
His 160+ The “G” Men series north of Dubuque series may be the best in IOWA !

He’s dedicated to the sport, and educates new cachers every chance he gets,

Plus…… he’s an all around great guy who takes a lot of time to help fellow cachers and his community.

PLUS……Being a Chicago Bears fan , how could I not vote for someone who has a ‘BEAR’ in their geocaching name!

    BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR!

    BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR!

    BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR!

    BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR!

    BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR! BIGBROTHERBEAR!

  7. I vote for BigBrotherBear! He has put forth a lot of effort to hide some great caches. I am looking forward to Spring when I can work on his new GMen series. This series took a lot of work and research. We all appreciate all the hard work his had put forth on this series and on all his caches!

  8. BBB BigBrotherBear is a legend among geocachers. His caches keep us busy all year round. Just when you think you might have caught up with him, he throws another 160 caches down to challenge you even more. Thanks BBB, from A1BOB66.

  9. Bigbrotherbear has been placing caches in our Dubuque County Conservation Areas for the past 5 years and his are so much fun to find! I teach children and adults about nature…geocaching is our gateway into partnering nature with technology. Bigbrotherbear creates diverse cashes and makes it educational and interesting to teach geocaching!
    Jenny-Dubuque County Naturalist

  10. Bigbrotherbear has greatly impacted our park usage in the last 5 years. He has given non-typical park users a venue. He has increased traffic to our parks and areas which is invaluable!

  11. My vote goes for Janizy! I second what others have written about her here. I might add about her genuine interest and passion in geocaching and the preservation of the environment. I wish everybody was as passionate as she is with this!

  12. NorthWes gets my vote.
NorthWes exemplifies “Geocacher”. Advocate, Educate, and Congregate. He advocates to Alaskan State Parks departments, Schools, and the general public. He hosts geocaching classes, outdoor safety, and CITO events. And he helps other cachers enjoy the game we love by organizing holiday and other get together events.
NorthWes encourages beginner cachers with a smiley. I remember in my baby days of caching, I opened an e-mail which contained our GeocacheAlaska! newsletter. As I scrolled through the articles what should I see, but a photo of my most faithful caching companion “Sugar”. To my surprise Sugar had been named Alaskas caching pet of the month. My heart swelled. What a proud papa I was.
I really started getting into the game after that. what nice people there are in geocaching, and Northwes is one of the BEST!

  13. I definitely liked Big Brother Bear’s epic Quest for the
Holy Grail Challenge. There are twenty plus caches and 6 miles of hiking wooded
hills, ravines, fording a river to eventually find the golden cup. The cache
page write ups are detailed and interesting and Jim is more than happy to go
with any caching group that wants to do this Challenge. Vote for BBB.

But seriously to be totally objective in our voting we will
need 2 tickets to Alaska and Puerto Rico to meet Norwes’s and Janizy’s and
    sample their caches! Thanks!!

  14. My Vote is for Big Brother Bear! “Bear is a great person who is very involved Geocaching. I think that the nomination speaks for Jim and the person that he is!

  15. Big Brother Bear gets my vote. I have been hooked on his caches ever since the “Holy Grail” series and now we have “The G-Men”. Jim has done a fantastic job and puts out great caches.

  16. I cast my vote for BIGBROTHERBEAR. There are some great cachers in Iowa, but it’s hard not to take note of the series he’s placed. They’re challenging, well thought-out, and are some fun geo-art to boot!

  17. Have to give my vote to BIGBROTHERBEAR! Has placed some very interesting caches that are way more than just park & grabs. Always a treat to find a BBB cache!

  18. I’m going to put my vote in for BIGBROTHERBEAR. I was part of a crew that went out after his Quest for The Holy Grail series. The series had us up on a bluff then down along a river and then back atop of the bluffs, crossing the river twice, to end up at a Great final location, what a workout it was and I loved every minute of it on a cold rainy day in December. BBB came out to see us while we were on our Quest, we didn’t know it at first…me and another one of our crew crossed the river with our pants rolled up, I at least had water shoes on, August crossed barefoot to find a couple of caches on the other side. I was on the side of a bluff hanging on to a tree with one hand reading and yelling the next co-ords out to the group on the other side of the river when we could hear someone else hollering out a whole different set of numbers and ending it with hut, hut, hut! We later found it to have been BBB having some fun with us. We enjoyed a fun visit with BBB at the site of the Holy Grail’s final. I’m sure the others are quite well very deserving of the honor, but I have only done BBB’s caches and met him of this bunch of nominees. Thank you, TJSAAVEDRA

  19. Big Brother Bear is truly asset advancements made in Dubuque has nothing but short extrodnary. His selfless commitment to this sport we love, he has riased awarness what geocaching is about. He has welcomed countless new geocachers through his efforts. When you look at what he has done you would think he is an one man army. The stats tell the story 956 favorite points in just 3 years that almost one a day. His karma is almost a 2 that means he gives twice as much as he takes. 3 awards from the Iowa geocachers organization for his outstanding caches.
His web pages are some of the best out there. Now you see a person that strives for perfection, but not for him. But everyone else that plays this game.
I consider Big Brother Bear a world class geocacher

  20. I’m for BIGBROTHERBEAR, I’ve seen him at events for beginners and he is always extremely helpful. You can tell he loves the game. He writes interesting and descriptive logs. Congrats for the nomination and good luck.

  21. Mi voto va para Janizy! Ella es una verdadera ambasador para nuestra zona y es un gran cacher un. Ella realmente merece este premio!

  22. My full support goes to Janizy. Her commitment to keep active the community of geocachers in Puerto Rico is admirable. She is always creating an event or activity to share or look for caches.
