Gnomes are a common sight in many a garden or front yard, but have you ever seen a group of gnomes living in a tree?

The Holly Hill Gnome Home was started in 2003 when three wandering gnomes (via resident Virginia Morris) asked the City Council to take up residence at the base of a tall, grizzled tree next to the Halifax River.

The original gnomes, Hall, Lee, and Hill were soon joined in their tree home, not only by other formerly gnomadic gnomes, but also by Gnome Place Like Home, our geocache of the week!

Even before a geocache was placed, visitors to this unique site would leave trinkets and offerings to the gnomes, or write letters and leave them for the gnomes to read. For cache owner, Yettay, it was the perfect spot for a cache.

Where is the cache itself you might ask? Well, It doesn’t take Sherlock Gnomes to figure it out, making this a great find for kids of all ages. While we won’t spoil the cache, we can say that gnome matter what your skill level or caching ability, you’ll definitely be able to find this one.

And this gnome is where the heart is—gnome pun intended! It has garnered an impressive number of Favorite points from happy cachers from all over the world.

Oh gnome, he didn’t! Oh yes, he did—find the cache, that is. Image by TSAKids.

Although Virginia Morris, the gnome tree’s original ambassador is now retired, she hopes that the gnome tree will continue to  “spread joy, hope, and peace” to future visitors. We hope all cachers who visit share those same feelings!
