Calling all adventure-seeking cachers! Grab your boots and gear, because this Geocache of the Week is quite a hike!
To log this T5/D4 Multi-Cache in Slovakia, you are invited to conquer a 100 km route that runs from Donovaly to Telgarta along the ridge of the Low Tatras Mountains. You must collect 17 numbers (A to Q) and fill in the provided formulas to obtain final coordinates. Get ready to be taken to great heights, have your math skills tested, and get just a peak of the gorgeous terrain of Slovakia with GC7DY00 Hrebenom Nizkych Tatier, our Geocache of the Week!
In order to make sure that cachers find the correct digits to plug into the formula, each stage is both a physical container and a virtual question to double-check your answer. Both of them are the same numbers. That is some thoughtful and clever cache hiding by the multi-masters, Čtyřhranka and Joe Tramp! Venice inspired their love for long-distance trails, and you can find their long-distance Multi-Caches all around Europe!
After High Tatras, the Low Tatras Mountains are the second-highest ridge of the Western Carpathians with four peaks exceeding 2000m (Ďumbier, Štiavnica, Chopok, Dereše). Both the mountains and their surroundings belong to the Low Tatras National Park. Along the trail, cachers can expect to discover wild blueberries and cranberries and even the occasional brown bear! Although this is one of the rainiest places in Slovakia, the view on a clear day is breathtaking. The cache owner’s favorite part of this Multi-cache is the sunrise on Kralova Hola, where the ridge ends.
The trip averages to around four or five days of full-time traveling, so planning in advance is key to successfully ascending to greatness and earning this smiley. Due to the fact that it is not permitted to stay the night outside of reserved spaces, a complete list of all places where you can stay (either in a cottage or under a tent), as well as water sources and other attractions can be found on the cache page. Čtyřhranka, the creator of this cache, highly suggested packing a raincoat and warm clothes (even in summer) and to not forget a camera!
Tucked away and surrounded by wilderness, there are a few shelters along the trail to put your feet up and chat into the night with your traveling pals or to listen to the rain patter on the roof as you rest up for the next day’s trek. Cacher Lienka86 captures the essence of that warm respite in their log when they say, “the cosiness is blissful.”
Many of those who find the final stage log their finds with a day-by-day breakdown. It is almost as if they were journaling their expedition. These logs tend to be quite poetic, describing their whimsical joy, and recounting the scenic views.
To summit all up, at up to 1800 meters above sea level, GC7DY00 will challenge your caching endurance, but the hiking, climbing, and trail-blazing will be worth it when you log this remarkable Geocache of the Week!
