
Five sculptures you didn’t know had geocaches nearby
Geocaching can take you to some unknown places and hidden gems, but that doesn’t mean geocachers shy away from famous sites. From the United Kingdom, to France, Japan, and the United States, explore a giant pumpkin, an angel with a wingspan of 54 meters, and a marble installation originally designed to conceal ventilation shafts. Here are five famous sculptures you didn’t know had geocaches nearby.
1. Angel of the North
Newcastle, United Kingdom
Geocache to find: Angel of the North, GC7B7FN
Gazing over the countryside, Angel of the North is Britain’s largest sculpture spanning 54m (177 feet) wide and 20m (65 feet) high. Perched high on a hilltop, this statue is as much a piece of art as an engineering wonder, and is able to withstand winds up to 160 kilometers per hour (100 mph).

2. Cloud Gate
Chicago, Illinois, United States

One of the world’s largest permanent outdoor art installations, Cloud Gate was unveiled in 2004 by internationally renowned artist Anish Kapoor. Reflecting Chicago’s iconic skyline, “The Bean” is a must-see.

3. Yayoi Kusama’s Yellow Pumpkin
Naoshima Island, Japan

The island of Naoshima in Japan is filled with contemporary art, sculpture, and installations. One of these sculptures has gained much fame. Installed in 1994 and sitting at the end of a pier is a giant yellow pumpkin with black dots designed by famed artist Yayoi Kusama.

4. Les Deux Plateaux
Paris, France
Geocache to find: Les marbres de Buren / The Buren Marbles, GC7GYAC
Artist Daniel Buren sculpted these striped marble columns in the main courtyard of the Palais Royal in 1986. The columns were created to disguise a ventilation shaft in a parking lot, but have since become one of Paris’ most iconic sights.

5. The Kelpies
Grangemouth, United Kingdom

Reaching 30 meters (98 feet) high and depicting mythological shape-shifting water horses, The Kelpies are the largest equine sculptures in the world.
