Gadget caches may be deviously delightful, and Giga-Events can make you gleeful. EarthCaches might leave you feeling like you’re on top of the world, while Multi-Caches can tease your brain every step of the way.

This week, however, we’re celebrating the simplicity of a well-placed Traditional Cache, cleverly hidden in plain sight.

We Make a Great Pair (GC8XCPD) is more than it ap‘pears’!

We Make a Great Pair (GC8XCPD) is a delicious geocache and is an extraordinary example of a simple yet clever cache that’s fun for the whole family.

Cache owner, fromthewildwater, discovered geocaching while trying to find an activity they could do as a family with young children. Geo-parents know that simply getting to GZ with a micro-cacher can turn a D1 into a D5. Fromthewildwater wanted to make a cache that is easy to access but still provides a challenge once you arrive. A conveniently placed pear tree near their local church provided the perfect solution.

With a deceptive difficulty rating of 2, this cache’s rating varies depending on the season. Fromthewildwater explains:

“It’s a 2. I figured in the summer it’s a 4, a 3 in fall, and a 1 in winter and spring, so it evens out.”

One might ask, how does a cache’s difficulty change? When there are decoys about! Each summer, this tree is laden with fruit, which serve as decoys—and natural SWAG—for the cache-hungry geocacher. Expertly painted to blend in with its pear peers, this cache’s container is well-hidden but easily within reach; there is no need to go out on a limb to find it.

Being a cache owner is almost as much fun as geocaching, says fromthewildwater.

“Something I would like to share with the geocaching community is how important cache owners are to the game! The game is good because people create and maintain fun caches and we’re thankful for those who have made geocaching a fun experience for our family.”

So, if this cache inspires you, we encourage you to hide your own cache and let other geocachers enjoy the fruits of your labor! You don’t need to break the bank to make a great cache. All you need is an idea, a little creativity, and a log sheet.
