This installment of Geocache of the Week finds us on the Greek Isles, outside the storied city of Rhodes, at Epta Piges. Here we are ready to quench our thirst for water and smileys at a group of natural springs and the namesake for the three-stage Multi-Cache, Epta Piges (GC12ZE4).

Seeing the words geocache and Rhodes in the same sentence might ring a bell because of our ongoing Wonders of the World campaign. Rhodes was a significant location in the Classical Era of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, and it was home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Colossus of Rhodes.

If you’re not a fan of ancient history, there is still plenty for an adventure-loving geocacher to enjoy about our Geocache of the Week, Epta Piges. The journey starts at the posted coordinates of the cache, where seven springs merge into a single stream. The next set of coordinates listed in the cache description have you follow the stream to a tunnel which you must pass through. Cachers have the option of wading through the shallow stream coursing through the tunnel or following a walking path to the tunnel’s end.

Once you’ve arrived at the tunnel’s end where the stream turns into a small lake, you must carefully record the coordinates at the end of the tunnel. The next step is to go to the second waypoint and take note of the landmarks there. With all this information you can fill in the missing spaces in the final coordinates. Keep your eyes open as you walk along the stream and lake and you might see ducks or peacocks, who are known to use the area as a habitat.

Finding this cache will leave you with peaceful memories of walking around a Mediterranean paradise surrounded by the murmur of a natural stream, the shade of old pine trees, and exciting memories of wading through a stream in a narrow tunnel to make it to hidden treasure.
