Adventure Lab® Spotlight: Les Portes Fortifiées
For our latest Adventure Lab Spotlight, we’re heading to Canada to explore the historic stone fortifications of Quebec City with the Adventure, Les Portes Fortifiées. This captivating tour enchants imaginations with its old stone arches and ramparts, and expands minds as it reveals the history of the province of Quebec. Get ready to be taken back in time as you explore the Locations of this Adventure.

When first looking at the stone fortifications around the Old Quebec district of Quebec City, you might assume that they were all built around the same time and haven’t been changed since. But as this Adventure reveals, there is more there than meets the eye. Les Portes Fortifiées, created by Farfadet_Géant, takes adventurers to sections of the city wall that were constructed at different times and have been rebuilt or restored over the years.

The stone wall and arches that make up the fortifications look like something out of a fairy tale, but their origins are grounded in reality. With its location on the St. Lawrence River, Quebec City has strategic importance going all the way back to its founding in the early 17th century. The first stop on the Adventure is the Saint-Louis Gate which was first built in 1693 by French settlers to defend Quebec City. Later in the Adventure, you’ll find the Kent Gate which was first built by the British in 1878. Unlike the Saint-Louis Gate, the Kent Gate was built to decorate the city rather than defend it.

This Adventure shouldn’t take too long to complete if you do it all in one go, but you can easily spend more time exploring all that this historic city has to offer between the Adventure’s Locations.
