The energy behind Blue Switch Day

Our beloved game of geocaching wouldn’t be possible without the power of satellites. As they orbit in the sky above us, they help us navigate the world and transmit information in profound ways. With Blue Switch Day coming up, many questions come to mind. Have you ever wondered how the signal reaches the Earth and helps us navigate to where we want to go?

Like humans, satellites need the sun’s energy to power through each day—only they have large solar-powered mirrors to help harness it. Before the satellite beams information down to Earth, it transforms the sunlight into uninterrupted microwave energy. With this sustainable energy, the satellite can transmit your exact location in relation to your next geocache find using radio waves!

The sun’s solar energy has many incredible benefits, and Blue Switch Day is the perfect day to get out and take advantage of the sun’s rays. From April 30 through May 2, you can earn the Blue Switch Day 2022 souvenir by finding a geocache, Adventure Lab® Location, or by attending an Event!

The sun’s energy generates vitamin D, strengthens bones, and boosts mental health. Without the powerful combination of solar energy and satellites, we wouldn’t have the game of geocaching or perhaps a healthy reason to go outside and restore our energy.
