Geocaching HQ: What’s the story behind your username? How and when did you hear about geocaching?
jdef078 is a short for the name of my husband with the area code of our place of residence, Dordrecht, in the Netherlands. When we create a username, we always place 078 behind it. My husband heard about geocaching from some of his colleagues and told me. By the end of 2022, we were ready to explore new things, so we tried out the geocaching search. Our first ever geocache found was with our two kids, it was a banana in a tree. The first of many, we have found almost 1,400 now.
Geocaching HQ: What’s your background outside of geocaching?
In my free time, I like to go outside for a walk or cycle, read a book, or cook delicious food for family or friends. Watching a cooking show or travel program, exploring new things. Quality time with my two kids and husband. Last but not least, karaoke at a fun party, I’m in. 🤗🤩

Geocaching HQ: When did you start documenting your geocache finds on social media and what makes it so special?
Beginning in 2023, I started filming our finds. We really enjoy exploring and creating new adventures and sharing them. There are so many fun geocaches to find and share. It gives new ideas for making geocaches, ideas to visit places, and find them yourself. Beautiful areas, nature, or historical places. For me, it is fun when I see a post with a familiar geocache, mainly in an instant, you know where it is, and the memories come alive. 💚

Geocaching HQ: What are your favorite posts you’ve shared on social media and why do they stand out among the rest?
We have a couple of favorites, one of which is a geocache with golf balls. Do the balls come out left or right? How many balls are in there? 🙃 It was on vacation that we could log was really a family effort. The second one is a front-yard cache with a control box where we needed to bring a charged power bank. After logging, the owners came outside for a chat, and we got two woodies.

Geocaching HQ: What has been your favorite geocaching moment so far and what are you looking forward to most for geocaching’s 25th anniversary?
Going on the search with my husband is always nice. Quality time while walking, cycling, and talking on the hunt for the geocache. People say I’m very passionate when talking about geocaching. Because of this, my parents tried it and are into it as well. Geocaching with them at their age is also fun. Inspiring others to join the geocaching search inspires us to keep discovering and sharing. We’ll celebrate the 25th anniversary with the Locationless Cache GCA2025 and the Block Party 2025 in Genk GCAKWAY.
Geocaching HQ: What tips do you have for new geocachers?
Really, just start and enjoy the adventure. Take a pen with you and go out. Start nearby, you’ll be amazed at which places you visit you have never seen or knew about before.
