El Mega The Whittlesea tuvo lugar en un inesperado fin de semana tempestuoso de noviembre. Accessibility and inclusion at The Whittlesea Event
Geocaching HQ Lackeys attend dozens of Mega and Giga-Events around the world, shaking hands, sharing stories of adventure, and of course, geocaching! AKprincesswarrior is the Learning & Development Manager at Geocaching HQ. She recently traveled to Australia to attend the Mega-Event, The Whittlesea Event 2022 (GC8EW40). Here’s her summary of the Event.
The Whittlesea Mega-Event took place over an unexpectedly blustery November weekend. The community of organizers and volunteers, Geocaching Victoria, managed the surprise winter weather with grace, even rescuing a geocacher’s tent after being blown away by fierce wind and pulling off a stunning fireworks show despite heavy rains. While organizing Mega-Events requires a variety of important skills, the ability of the organizers to respond in the moment to whatever unexpected chaos gets thrown their way (like surprise wind storms) is as important as the proactive preparation it takes to design an experience that not only delights the geocaching community but ensures no geocacher gets left behind, including geocachers with sensory sensitivities and those who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing. Whittlesea Mega event (GC8EW40) se konal během nečekaně deštivého listopadového víkendu. Komunita organizátorů a dobrovolníků Geocaching Victoria se s nečekaně zimním počasím vypořádala s grácií, dokonce zachránila stan hráče, který byl odnesen prudkým větrem, a navzdory silným dešťům uspořádala ohromující ohňostroj. Organizace megaeventů vyžaduje řadu důležitých dovedností, ale schopnost organizátorů reagovat v danou chvíli na neočekávaný chaos, který se jim postaví do cesty (např. nečekaná větrná smršť), je stejně důležitá jako proaktivní příprava, která je nutná k vytvoření zážitku, který nejenže potěší komunitu hráčů, ale zajistí i úžasné zapojení postižených od zrakově postižených až po neslyšící a nedoslýchavé. Das Whittlesea Mega (GC8EW40) fand an einem unerwartet stürmischen Novemberwochenende statt. Die Organisatoren und freiwilligen Helfer von Geocaching Victoria haben den überraschenden Wetterumschwung gut gemeistert und konnten sogar das Zelt eines Geocachers retten, das vom heftigen Wind weggeweht worden war. Und trotz den schweren Regenfällen haben sie noch eine sensationelle Feuerwerksshow abgeliefert. Die Organisation eines Mega-Events erfordert eine Reihe wichtiger Fähigkeiten. Aber die Fähigkeit der Organisatoren, von einem Moment auf den anderen auf unerwartetes Chaos zu reagieren (wie überraschende Stürme) ist genauso wichtig wie die proaktive Vorbereitung, die ein Event benötigt, um die Geocaching-Community zu begeistern. Toegankelijkheid en inclusie op het Whittlesea-evenement
De Whittlesea Mega (GC8EW40) ond plaats in een onverwacht winderig novemberweekend. De groep van organisatoren en vrijwilligers, Geocaching Victoria, heeft het verrassende winterweer met gratie doorstaan. Ze hebben zelfs de tent van een geocacher gered nadat deze door de hevige wind was weggeblazen en ondanks de hevige regen een prachtige vuurwerkshow georganiseerd. Hoewel het organiseren van mega-events een aantal belangrijke vaardigheden vereist, is het vermogen van de organisatoren om op het moment zelf te reageren op onverwachte chaos (zoals onverwachte stormen) even belangrijk als de proactieve voorbereiding die nodig is om een ervaring te ontwerpen die niet alleen de geocachinggemeenschap verrukt, maar ervoor zorgt dat geen enkele geocacher achterblijft, met inbegrip van geocachers met zintuiglijke gevoeligheden en doven en slechthorenden.
