Cache Cracker Jacks

Cache Cracker Jacks – Nominees for May Geocacher of the Month

Logan Childress, aka altosaxplayer, writes, “I would like to nominate Cache Cracker Jacks from Kingsport, TN… In the 14 months since they started caching, Tom and Dori have found over 1200 caches and placed 83 for others to find, a good portion of which are custom created containers…as well as an area favorite “Excalibur” which has so far received a favorite point from each cacher who has logged it.

They have introduced several individuals to the sport, chiefly through their weekly volunteer work at geocache friendly Bays Mountain Park, the largest city-owned park in the state of Tennessee, and their new monthly event initiative. So far in 2013, they have held an event each month except February, with the events for the rest of the year already planned and soon to be listed on the website. They work with local restaurants for hosting the events to bring cachers to places they perhaps haven’t been before and to support our local businesses.

They are doing this in hopes of fostering a feeling of family in our geocaching community as well as attracting non-cachers to the sport.”

fredrikhast

Jenny Nordqvist, aka jempas.se, writes, “I’d like to nominate the Swedish geocacher fredrikhast for Geocacher of the month! … Not only does he hold the record for most favourite points in his town, he also holds the 1st place in the entire state.

Numbers aside, Fredrik and his geocaching buddies in Team Cache Us If You Can frequently organizes events with elaborate themes, jam packed with fun stuff and breathtaking hides.

Fredrik often uses multimedia to enhance the experience for geocachers visiting his geocaches, whether it’s a trailer promoting the cache itself or building websites that expand the universe for the cache. It’s stuff like that that makes you want to log a cache twice! 🙂

As a father of a child with mental disabilities, I know he tries to put out hides to satisfy all types of geocachers, including the ones in a wheelchair.

Another thing Fredrik does for the geocaching community is vlogging about his geocaching adventures (Swedens only, in fact). I bet his videos are a big inspiration for beginners who just found out about this sport and go searching for info on Youtube!”

Bitzlav

BITZLAV – Nominees for Geocacher of the Month

RAVILLOIS nominates French geocachers Bitzlav for Featured Geocacher(s) of the Month. The couple has been geocaching since 2009.

ENGLISH: “Bitzlav is known in France, Lorraine, for the ingenuity of their geocaches. Beyond the large number of geocaches, they have made geocaching even more attractive because they are constantly imagining new geocache containers. Pele53

Pele53
Pele53 – Geocacher of the Month Nominee

Göran “McBack” Back nominated Esko Aspholm alias “Pele53.” Pele53 has won several awards for best geocaches, and hosted regular Event Caches throughout 2012 and into 2013. McBack says one series in Finland demonstrates Pele53’s geocaching ingenuity. McBack says, “He has made many caches with a lot of work behind them. He had 4 nightcaches, with a lot of work behind, with the theme Snowwhite and the seven dwarfs.

The first of them is the house where they live, where Sleepy and Snowwhite is, the second was The hunters cabin, the third The princes castle and the last was the mine where the rest of the dwarfs where. The whole trail was tracked by “diamonds” in the forest, just in case Snowwhite had to find them. The first of these actually won the Ostrobothnian best other cache 2011.

One of the latest mystery “Eihän tässä ole mitään järkeä!”  (translated like “After all, this makes no sense!”) that was voted the best cache of 2012 in Finland. This has also been mentioned in magazines and even the local radio station. It needs something special to be opened, that many of us has with us when geocaching. But with about 20 geocachers at site for the First to Find hunt, they needed to call help to get it opened. =D So many of his caches are made with lot of work, and he still have many ideas to new caches.”

OHMIC

Ohmic - Geocacher of the Month Nominee
Ohmic – Geocacher of the Month Nominee

Josh Bernier (username Stonagal) nominates OHMIC. He says, “With close to 15,000 finds, Jacques, OHMIC has found more geocaches than any other geocacher in the Canadian province of Manitoba.  He has more than 130 published caches, over six cache types.  But the biggest reason I think he should be the Geocacher of the Month is because of the great work he has done in providing quality events for local geocachers.  OHMIC is an interpreter at the Oak Hammock Marsh.  For the past seven years, he has hosted an event in May called “Cache the Marsh“.  Geocachers split into teams and explore the Interpretive Centre’s numerous exhibits to get clues as to the locations of several caches.  It’s a mad race for some new FTFs, and along the way cachers learn about wetlands ecosystems and wildlife.  It’s a great family-friendly competitive event that ends with a barbecue.  This was the seventh year OHMIC has planned and hosted the event, and it lived up to the great things I had heard other cachers say about it. OHMIC is also a Platinum-level Earthcache Master, and the owner of a local favourite series of caches named for Santa’s reindeer.”

roymerc

roymerc - nominee for Geocacher of the Month
roymerc – nominee for Geocacher of the Month

Peter Dose, TeamDose nominated, roymerc. He says, “Roymerc may be the best “cache placer” in Western Australia.  We have travelled from the far North down to the deep South of WA, and when we came across Roy’s cache’s in the Denmark area, we knew we had found something special.  He puts an exceptional amount of time and effort into the design and creation of these cache masterpieces – and as a result has attracted a large number of favourite points.  There is not one of Roy’s active caches which do not have at least 1 favourite point – fairly unique we would think in the caching world.

Each cache is unique and special in its own way.  Some of the caches involve electricity, other of the caches involve complex machinery. Roy’s “Bring Your Own Battery” series is also unique, and has inspired copies further afield in places like Perth.

Denmark is a very beautiful part of Australia, and with Roy living there it is also extra special for all geocachers.  We think roymerc is awesome, and so do many other cachers judging by the number of favourite points he has accumulated in such a remote part of the world!  For these reasons, we believe he deserves to be recognised as a cacher of the month!”

Olefant

Olefant - Nominee for the Geocacher of the Month
Olefant – Nominee for the Geocacher of the Month

Michael Schwartz “schwartz-hansen” writes, “Our nominee is Olefant (the name is a combination of his first name Ole and his logo a biking elephant – elefant in danish).

He is a retired music teacher from Copenhagen who by now has released nearly 250 caches in Denmark and other countries. He started geocaching in 2009, and has been very active from 2011 until now. He has made a lot of cartoon caches and his FTF-certificates are often laminated pictures of the cartoon figures. At his last event on the 16 of March, he released more than 30 caches, with cartoon series and an Astrology series called the Zoodiak – because the theme of the event was animals.

With his events and his caches, we think that Olefant is a big inspiration for the other geocachers in Denmark, … besides that he is always taking his time to talk to all the persons he meets at events and when he is in the field geocaching.”

 MulderNScully

MulderNScully - Nominees for the Geocacher of the Month
MulderNScully – Nominees for the Geocacher of the Month

Cristina Florez, “Mamabear Crew” writes, “My nomination for MulderNScully isn’t just because they’re “nice”… it’s because they take geocaching as a true sport. And their caches… ooooh their caches……. just like their username suggests, they are out of this world! Inventive, thought out, truly educational, and some of them hard as hell. They have been an inspiration to us and we will be trying to follow their lead in making this sport a true adventure!”

Jerry Lynn DellAmic writes, “They have helped me when I got stuck on puzzle caches, but they never gave me the solution.  They made me talk out loud. …MulderNScully take pride in their geocaches.  For them, it’s not about the numbers.  It’s about enjoying life.  Taking the opportunity to walk among nature.  Go to places that you may not ever get the chance to see. If it hadn’t been for this great hobby, I would never have had the opportunity to meet these life long friends.”

Onslow Fisherman

Onslow Fisherman - Nominee for Geocacher of the Month
Onslow Fisherman – Nominee for Geocacher of the Month

Natalie Gray writes, “I would like to nominate Jim Greene, also known as Onslow Fisherman, as Geocacher of the Month. I met Jim by mail, when he very nicely answered some question I had about a puzzle cache he had. He invited me to meet him and his wife in NZ and I jumped at the chance. We became friends and he has helped me with computer questions, etc…We’ve even done an “International Cache” together, GC44F7A and GC42HKJ respectively. Jim is well respected in his native geocaching community, always giving back. He ran a GSAK seminar at NZ Mega in October, and also arranged a 4X4 event last year. His caches are great, and he’ll even lend you his GPS to find them. (GC2QAHK and GC2MF3T). He is helpful to newbies and experienced cachers alike, gets tons of favorite points on his caches, and makes our sport better every day. He also has over 1000 caches to his credit, which is hard to do in a relatively small island country. Jim Greene/Onslow Fisherman, epitomizes the best in geocaching and definitely deserves to be a Geocacher of the Month.”
