Thank a Volunteer Day

If you’ve ever hidden a geocache (or found one!), a geocaching community volunteer helped make it happen. These expert geocachers review each geocache placed to ensure it meets the geocaching guidelines and regional policies.

Geocaching community volunteers keep this game in motion: forums are moderated, blogs are translated, geocachers are mentored, and new geocaches are published far and wide. In the past year, the pandemic has added a new layer of challenges onto the normal tasks for the community volunteers, and they have weathered the storm admirably.

Genieße den Wechsel der Jahreszeiten

Die Jahreszeit verändert sich und hier in Seattle hat uns der Frühling mit mehreren Tagen Sonnenschein und vielen blühenden Blumen erfreut. Für uns beginnt in der nördlichen Hemisphäre das, was wir “Matschjahreszeit” nennen und die “Zweige-Jahreszeit” in der südlichen Hemisphäre. Das ist die Jahreszeit, wo der Boden nach dem Winter auftaut und jeden unbefestigten Weg und Pfad weich macht und wo der Herbst alle Blätter fallen lässt und nur noch nackte Bäume zurücklässt.

Das hört sich vielleicht nicht nach einer guten Zeit an, um cachen zu gehen, ist es aber. Auf ein paar Dinge musst Du aufpassen, wie schlammige Straßen, in denen man leicht steckenbleiben kann und dass sich das Wetter sehr leicht ändern kann, so dass Du verschiedene Kleiderschichten einpacken solltest; aber es gibt auch viele Gründe, warum Du zum Cachen rausgehen und Dich der Jahreszeit stellen solltest, und hier sind drei davon.

Tirez profit des changements de saisons

Les saisons changent et ici à Seattle le printemps nous a taquiné avec quelques jours de soleil et une forte floraison. Nous entrons dans ce qui pourrait être intitulé “Saison de la boue” dans l’hémisphère Nord et “Saison collante” dans l’hémisphère sud. Cette époque de l’année où le sol dégèle après l’hiver, ce qui rend chaque chemin de terre et chaque sentier boueux, et où l’automne sévit lorsque les feuilles tombent au sol, laissant les arbres complètement nus.

On pourrait se dire que ce n’est pas propice au géocaching, pourtant ça l’est. Il y a des choses dont il faut être conscient, comme les routes boueuses dans lesquelles il est facile de s’embourber, que la météo peut changer en un rien de temps, alors vous devez emmener des vêtements chauds , mais il y a de nombreuses raisons d’aller faire du géocaching pendant la saison intermédiaire et nous vous en partageons trois.

Vind je reden voor het wisselende seizoen

De seizoenen wisselen en hier in Seattle heeft de lente ons al geplaagd met een aantal dagen met zonneschijn en veel bloeiende bloemen. We beginnen aan wat op het noordelijk halfrond het “modderseizoen” en op het zuidelijk halfrond het “takseizoen” genoemd kan worden. De tijd van het jaar waarin de grond ontdooit na de winter en iedere onverharde weg en pad soepel maakt en waar de herfst ervoor zorgt dat de bladeren vallen, waarbij kale takken achterblijven.

Dat klinkt misschien niet als een goede tijd om te gaan geocachen, maar dat is het wel. Er zijn dingen waar je je van bewust moet zijn, zoals modderige wegen waar je makkelijk in kan blijven steken en dat het weer ieder moment kan veranderen, dus dat je laagjes mee moet nemen, maar er zijn genoeg redenen om tijdens het wisselende seizoen te gaan cachen en we delen er drie met je.

Find your reason in the changing seasons

The seasons are changing and here in Seattle spring has been teasing us with several days of sunshine and lots of blooming flowers. We are entering what is affectionately known as “Mud Season” in the northern hemisphere and “Stick Season” in the southern hemisphere. The time of year where the ground is thawing from winter making every dirt road and trail supple, and where Fall is fulfilling its namesake as the leaves fall to the ground leaving bare trees.

It might not sound like a good time to go geocaching, but it is. There are things you need to be aware of, such as muddy roads that are easy to get stuck in, and that the weather can change on a dime so you need to pack layers, but there are plenty of reasons to head out geocaching during the shoulder season and we’re sharing three of them.
