End of the road: A recap of Memory Lane

With the close of 2020 came the end of Memory Lane, the souvenir challenge celebrating 20 years of geocaching. If there’s anything geocaching can teach us, it is to expect the unexpected, and 2020 sure fits that. Despite a year of change, geocachers around the world were still able to safely get outside and explore the world around them. Let’s take a look back at some fun numbers from Memory Lane!

Nearly 650,000 geocachers earned the first souvenir named “Memory Lane: First geocache hidden.”

26,829 of those earned the souvenir on the first day, June 1, 2020, and 929 completed the campaign!

Over 207,000 geocachers would continue on to earn the final souvenir: 20 years of geocaching!

218,000 geocachers were sent a survey about their experience with the Memory Lane souvenir challenge.

Of the respondents, most shared that the challenge was too easy for the amount of time, but appreciated and understood the time frame due to the restrictions of COVID-19.

The feedback included themes such as enjoying the continued focus on quality over quantity, the fun game board landing page for the challenge, and learning about the history of geocaching!

While this road has come to an end, we can still reminisce on our favorite parts. What is your favorite memory from Memory Lane?
