Wheel of Challenges by the numbers

After six months of exciting themes, Wheel of Challenges came to an end earlier this month. Geocachers turned out by the thousands for each challenge doing what they do best: getting outside, having fun, and finding geocaches! Let’s take a look at some of the numbers from Wheel of Challenges.

The challenge with the most participants was Seeking Smileys, with geocachers earning souvenirs by increasing their find count by 5, 10, or 100 caches.

Each challenge had souvenirs for different levels of difficulty. The “easy” challenge with the highest number of earned souvenirs was Seeking Smileys with 206,602 souvenirs earned. The “hard” challenge with the highest number of earned souvenirs was Teamwork Makes the Dream Work with 42,759 souvenirs earned.

Even though the Streak Star challenge had the fewest number of “hard” souvenirs earned, over 15,000 geocachers still completed a 28-day streak during the challenge timeframe! A round of applause for all of those Streak Stars!

The top five countries that earned the most souvenirs for Wheel of Challenges were:

1. Germany
2. United States
3. Netherlands
4. France
5. United Kingdom

265,000 geocachers were sent a survey about their experience with Wheel of Challenges. In the survey responses, geocachers shared which challenges they enjoyed the most and the three most popular were:

  1. Favorite Fan
  2. Seeking Smileys
  3. Iconic Cacher
