Hiding a geocache can be a challenge. Hiding a geocache in a city can be downright dreadful. It must be cleverly concealed to avoid suspicion but hidden in such a way as to catch the eye of an experienced geocacher.

Cache owner SammysHP takes hiding in-plain-sight to the next level with their deceptively designed, Park and Grab CELLE (GC5PR0F).

Many urban cache owners use micro caches, hoping that their small size helps them to go unnoticed. Others lay elaborate puzzles to guide geocachers to the final hiding spot. Some cache owners, like SammysHP, take a different approach, hiding their caches in-plain-sight through cunning disguises and camouflage.

This cache is cleverly disguised as a common sight on city streets—a parking meter! SammysHP first had the idea when he noticed the city upgrading ticket machines.

“Wouldn’t it be nice to have such a device as a geocache? So I got in contact with the city administration and [was] able to get one of the old machines… After nearly 10 years of continuous operation as a cache, you can see its age. But guess what? The machines in the city have been replaced again and one of these newer models is waiting in my workshop to be turned into a new geocache.”—SammysHP

The only thing we love more than a clever cache is a clever cache made from recycled materials! SammysHP has done a fantastic job restoring this machine; it looks like any ordinary parking meter with instructions on how to pay, a digital interface, and a spot to print a parking pass.

But where is the geocache? Read the cache description closely to unlock the secrets of this cache. Don’t worry, you can leave your spare change behind! In addition to a logbook and a few trackables, this cache even provides visitors with their very own parking pass to proudly display on their vehicles (or bicycles).

Geocaching in the city can be a lot like trying to find a parking spot; sometimes you find it immediately, and sometimes the search leaves you wandering in circles. But this cache is a witty reminder that the hunt is half the fun (at least in geocaching, that is).

Geocaching is not (only) about statistics. It’s about adventures, exploring the world, seeing something new and unexpected… Tell us something about the reason for the cache, give it a purpose. Guide us along mysterious paths and show us the beauty of the nature. —SammysHP
