Regular maintenance is an important (and required) way to ensure that your geocache is a reward for those who seek it. If a cache falls into disrepair, then a reviewer may take action via the sweeping* process. Continue reading →

Video: A geocacher stands in the woods next to a cluster of thin trees. Tied to one of the trees is a wooden box with the Geocaching logo. The cacher unlocks the front of the box and removes a metal chain and a magnet. To the right of the box is a flexible plastic tube tied to another tree and decorated like a snake. They move the magnet along the length of the tube to the snake’s mouth, revealing a magnetic geocache container.

Video: A geocacher unlocks the protective casing for this geocache. They grab a floppy disk displayed at the front, place it in the appropriate slot, and a classic cassette tape unexpectedly pops out of the top of the cache. As the cacher inserts the cassette into the appropriate place, a VHS tape pops out of another compartment, which the cacher places into the final insert, releasing the logbook container from its hiding spot.

💡 Not just a find… you have to pump your way to the logsheet 🔧

Watch closely—the code for GCBCVD7 literally rises to the surface 👀

Video by adventureswithmspatt.

Video: A cache owner shares that this is one of their top 5 caches, called Pump It Up. When you walk up to the cache, you lift the top “pole” compartment to reveal a clear tube. In front, there is an ammo box with a tag that says “Danger – do not operate.” The ammo box is removed, revealing what looks like a pump. As you start pumping, ping-pong balls rise through the clear tube, each with a number. The person filming reads the numbers out loud. These numbers form the code needed to open the locked ammo can attached to a nearby tree. Once entered correctly, the lock opens, and you gain access to the logsheet.
